Do clubs always interview for manager position?

Say the club identified exactly who they want, and just go get their man...maybe if he's doing well with another team there needs to be negotiations re compensation etc....does a club always go through the actual sit down interview process??

Like if Everton want Dyche as current example....would they bother interview or does board just agree on target and go get him?

If so, and assuming we want McInnes, why the shortlist and interviews? Does this show its not unanimous?

Is that for real?
Do you believe a manager has ever left a job to take up another without an interview?

What is the actual role?
Wage?
Budget?
Procedures?

Your interview is my contract negotiations. Of course all this is part of the negotiation when the club is trying to bring in the right guy, who in turn bases his own decision on what the club's offering him as package....

...but the interview stage of recruitment is before all that. To interview is when the candidate persuades employer they are the right person for the position. That's kinda contrary to the board making their mind up and going to lure their chosen man to the club

What your asking then is if some clubs actively headhunt managers?
Of course they do.

But even then, there would be negotiations regarding wage, budget, requirements of both parties.
That's an interview.

Do some clubs have 2 interviews?
Of course they do.

1 to find the best candidate, and the next best and so on.

Then second interview the best in order until they find one they reach agreement with and hire.

An interview works both ways for the employer AND the candidate. The rangers board and Mciness could meet up with good intentions and positive in the mind that they will suit one another. But at the end of it one or both parties might be totally disappointed how the meeting went and decide it's not suitable.

In ‘normal’ jobs you’d surely only have that sort of interview process if you were looking to employ and didn’t really know much about who was out there.

In football there is so much information and stats on everyone these days that it seems mental to employ a manager from an open application process?

Also, how and where do you advertise?

Of corse you interview. You know the candidates history and stats, obviously, but beyond contract negotiations and discussion of budgets, you want to know his views on how he can improve your team, your club, your youth structure, your training methods, the future of your existing playing staff and any background team, what his plans are regarding future spend etc.
