Scotland's clubs will be warned next week that failure to thrash out league reconstruction in time for next season will effectively press the self destruct button on the professional game in this country.

Record Sport understands SPFL chief executive Neil Doncaster is bracing himself for a series of monumental meetings next week - beginning on Monday when he will hold crisis talks with all 12 top flight clubs.

And Doncaster will attempt to hammer home the message that a radical overhaul of the current league structure - and in particular the lower three leagues - is no longer an option but an absolute necessity.

The move comes after an SPFL board held an emergency meeting to study a reconstruction ‘discussion paper’ put forward on Tuesday by Hearts owner Ann Budge.

Thursday’s meeting of the Hampden top brass also centred around growing concerns over next season’s Championship after a number of second tier clubs admitted earlier this week that they cannot afford to start up the next campaign behind closed doors.

And now Doncaster will have to spell out the dire consequences of any failure to agree on a new format in time for football’s big re-start.

That means clubs from the Championship down would be expected to fulfil all 36 league fixtures. And any club which could not play their games could then be faced with the ultimate threat of expulsion from the SPFL

One source told us: “These are going to be very difficult conversations but that’s just the reality of the situation Scottish football now faces.

“Doncaster will meet with the Premiership clubs on Monday to discover if there is any consensus among them for what Ann has proposed, in terms of a 14 team top division for next season.

“If they can’t agree on that then everyone will be back to square one. And that’s when the chief executive is going to have to explain the next steps to clubs in the lower three tiers. As things stand, three leagues of ten clubs is not going to be possible.

“Some Championship clubs have already made it clear they’ll be in no position to play a full league campaign. But unless 75 per cent of all clubs can agree on some form of reconstruction, then the rules state it must be a 36 game season.

“If any club can’t fulfil its own fixtures it would become a disciplinary issue - one of the most serious disciplinary issues there is - and it would carry unlimited punishments

If all of the other clubs went out of business, we could probably make a legitimate claim - for the first time - about setting up an Atlantic League or combining our league with England/Wales/Northern Ireland. To that end, I don't give the slightest %^*& if every single one of them go out of business bar us.

Scottish Football and all of the corruption could be the best documentary, the best book, the best news story. But not one single person is prepared to do it.

Shitebags. It’s there to be blown wide open whoever has the balls to do it.

In the mean time it’ll hate itself to death and half the clubs go out of business. All because of what...mentally challenged dick.

Why does the SPFL board tell everyone what they must do?

Why do they scare everyone with dire consequences if they do not follow the SPFL advice on a vote?

It seems to me that the SPFL tells Scottish clubs what to do or else we will make it very bad for you.

The SPFL board are making the decisions before any discussions are held by all the clubs.

More corruption is on its way to keep that shitty little club from Edinburgh in the top flight. Its coming down the track again to bully and harass member clubs to keep Hearts up, just like they threatened clubs that they'd receive no money unless they handed over the League title to Cesspit FC.

Every time and it's echoed out via the likes of Jackson & Co.

So the lower leagues say they can’t operate without fans attending games, not sure how forcing through reconstruction helps that,

Was just about to post that mate.

The way it reads is that lower league teams cannot play next season with 10 teams in their leagues, but if 14 teams are in the league then they will be ok to play?

That makes absolutely no sense whatsoever, but then again, this is Scottish football we are dealing with here.

This month has proved that our game has to change at the top, otherwise our game will be damaged without repair, corruption & bullying is killing in our game, then add in the fact that the age old self preservation that has hindered our game for years is still rife in our game.

This latest threat should force the clubs that have been wronged to take this further to the courts, it's the only way to try and sort out this abomination that both corrupt boards that run our game have created.

And, if that doesn't happen, then God knows what happens for the future of our game.

If it’s this dire why wasn’t he talking that way weeks ago. A complete and utter shambles.

Why let multiple attempts come and go and why wasn’t this distress signal sent after the first rejection of this by Premier clubs more than two weeks ago. What’s changed since then ?

Aberdeen chairman: "Whilst the group sympathises with the plight of the relegated teams, it concluded that this is not the right time to consider immediate reconstruction in the midst of a crisis"

They had since the 13th of March to enter into meaningful discussions on how to save the game in this country.

Instead they spent their time gerrymandering and ramming through the awarding of a tainted title* - all for the benefit of one club.

The vast majority of clubs were happy to go along with this for a measly few shekels.

F.uc.k each and every one of them.

Time for Rangers to file their law suits and obliterate this nonce and Lawwell's cabal of corrupt sycophants. Nuke the place, get with Cormack and Budge and demand a restructuring of the game. We need one governing body made up of impartial professionals. Otherwise we approach the English and ask for entry to wherever they'll have us. Work our way up.
We pay that specky c*** 400K to oversee this shambles.

What a f-con man. They could have avoid all this drama with a logical 'null & void' decision but the chance that might open the door to the CL for us made them shit their pants and declare the mentally challengeds winners with all the consequence that brought with it. Any reconstruction should be meaningful, not done as a stop gap to avoid a law suit

I hope we make a point of voting NO just to spite them.

No surprise its Jackson leading the media propaganda either

So Covid 19 and Hearts being relegated will kill the game?

The SPFL are like a child, trying to negotiate staying up late. Their arguments are not relevant to resolution, but they just keep talking.

"Lower league teams need fans to attend games to survive"
"We should have a 16 team top flight"

I have an idea, let's keep everybody happy, let's have one 42 team league. That'll fix it.

The way I see it, Budge was promised that Hearts would stay up if she sided with the cabal on the"yes" vote. One way or another, Doncaster will make good on that promise.
I will also be watching with interest for player moves/loans in and out of Dundee FC and pre-season friendlies/moneymakers for their balance sheet.

Why are we shocked by this and never even saw it coming I wonder?

The cabal are as pitiful as they are corrupt and predictable.
