EFL League One and Two Introduce Salary Cap

As ever the devil will be in the detail. On the face of it it's a decent idea, but it's not hard to spot potential issues.

For example, what happens when a club is relegated from the championship into league 1? Do they need to have a fire sale to get themselves under the cap?

On what basis? The players don't have to play in this division, there are plenty of other options for them to ply their trade.

The clubs have voted overwhelmingly for it.

I have been calling for some kind of salary cap
In the SPL for quite a few years now.
Only way to go,if you want an competitive

No, there's a rule which states that they only count as the average wage in league 1 for the remainder of their contract apparently.

" Transition arrangements have been incorporated in respect of a Club’s squad salary cap calculation with the key element of these aimed at addressing committed contracts and relegated Clubs. Any contract entered into on or prior to today’s vote will be capped at an agreed divisional average until that contract expires. Moving forwards, Clubs that are relegated will be permitted to cap all contracts at the divisional average prior to the Club’s relegation until those contracts expire. "
