He was drawn in the outside lane in the 400m Olympic final in Paris he was so concerned that he wouldn't know the position of the runners on the inside lanes he decided to run as if it was a 100m sprint his winning time was a new Olympic record which stood for decades, for whatever reason this was never included in the film Chariots of Fire

Actually broke the Olympic 200m record with the first half of his run in the Olympic 400m final.

Too true. If it hadn't been for Chariots of Fire I suspect that most Scots would never have heard of him.

From an article, or old newspaper cutting, I think I read on FF many years ago, did our own Bill Struth do a reading at his funeral or memorial service?
Or it may have been Mr Struth attending the funeral as the club's official representative.
Can anyone confirm?
