Euro bus or Flight?

The trip over can be fun the trip back is usually the worst by then you just want to be home and not having to take 2 or 3 days to get home

longest was Scotland away to Estonia in 1993

Furthest on bus for me was Levski Sofia left Duke St 11pm Sat night arrived Sofia about 4hrs before ko on the Wed stayed 1 night Budapest (Mon. Left straight after game Wed arrived back Saturday lunchtime... Just in time to leave for game at Starks Park.

Anyone choosing a bus is one for watching. Under no circumstances would I do it.

Aberdeen to Glasgow every week is bad enough.

Only done the bus once to Osasuna in 2007. Flew from Belfast to Glasgow on the Saturday , beat celtic on the Sunday ( Ehiogu 1-0) then 27 hour bus to Spain on the Monday morning. As others have said great going but absolute nightmare coming home. Worst part of the trip was the train & boat back to Belfast which was full of bead rattlers on their way to Belfast and Dublin for St Patrick’s day. Glad to say I’ve done the bus once but flying definitely the way to go.

Someone in Munich got left behind. It was out of order, imo and the wee guy must've only been around 16.

Goes back to the bus after the game, convenor countingheads x2 missing. The guys pal comes back on the bus saying ge can't find him. We waits and the longer it gets folk are getting a bit restless and the driver has obviously said to the convenor we need to make a move soon or we miss the ferry we must've been booked onto.

Loads of folk shouting just to leave him, the wee guys mate by this time looking pretty shaken up, bus convenor with a decision to make.

The bus left him, and his pal behind.

Outrageous. When the bus started moving the same rockets shouting to leave him, were now bawling at the convenor it was out of order. Fuckin bizarre.

Transpired the missing guy was so pished he fell asleep in the stadium toilets and was found by security. The boys had to go to our embassy to get put up and 'wired' money from their parents for flights home

Alot of bears especially newbies on the euro scene need reminded , most of the time its not a jolly

there is times and places buses/fans need to be ect before the game and after the game.

and to note alot of gers fans act like rockets

I agree with bus convenor made right call after trying

Done a good few bus trips in the 90's.
Turin was my 1st and Leverkusen my last.
These trips are character building and make you appreciate the plane.
First on a plane was a day trip to parma, the first thing you talk about on the plane is " do you remember that time we went to Turin on a bus....."

was on barry's bus that one
22 hours to and from

Without doubt going on the bus to Europe is a young mans game .
Fond memories of my first one v inter Milan in the mid 80s .
Been on a couple more since but now at an age where I want to get to the game , have a few beers and get a flight home .

I’ve done trips abroad by bus, plane and a shared driving experience with my brother to Strasbourg.

For ease of travel and time; plane obviously.

Freedom to go at your own pace; car.

Making ‘a man’ of you; bus.

Everyone should try a supporters bus at least once.

Thankfully it's not 1988 anymore and cheap flights are available. Imagine a bus all the way to Prague!

Done England several times but never main land Europe. Plane for me. I can imagine it would be brilliant on route but the journey from hell on the way back. To be honest I'm at the stage where even the flight back is becoming tough.
Best recent trip was Rotterdam, flew in on morning of match, one overnight stay and home following afternoon. Bliss for an old fart like myself:)

Did my first 8 trips to Europe on the bus including twice in a year to Parma, last bus trip was Monaco which broke me and have flew ever since.

I’ve only ever flew to a couple of Euro always but wish I’d done the bus at least once when I was younger. No way I could (or want to) do it now.

Done that for the Viktoria Zizkov game in Prague 2002. First and last bus trip! As others have said, it's brilliant going but coming back is a nightmare. We got beat 2-0 which made it worse.

It's a tough one tbh mate.

Aye it's not nice leaving someone, especially someone at 16 but you can argue that if he's big enough and old enough to travel himself he should be responsible enough to make sure he's back on the bus - and trust me I'm someone that's got pished and made a cnut of it many a time.

I think (for me anyway) you've got a whole coach to answer to and look after/be responsible for and obviously the ferry to catch or you've an even bigger problem.

Bus journey's like that where it's literally 24-hours worth, it's a pressure cooker with no sleep, drink and even drugs with some of them. If you waited and the boy made it back to the bus 3 or 4 hours later or whatever you've got tension all the way back and more than likely arguments and fights will break out due to it.

I know it sounds out of order, but I think the bus made the correct call - for what it's worth.
In hindsight, he did. As you say, it's the bigger picture as opposed to an individual. It didn't sit right with me at the time though.

You should really tell that story more often......only heard it twice.....have you mentioned the porno yet? :D

I'll stick with Plane.......plane.....train.....bus.......

But on way back........

Bus......Taxi......train......plane.......

Brilliant times :D
Oh yeah, forgot about that. :D

Few guys brought on porno mags (toilet with no flush) and they were getting passed around, folk taking lines of speed off the 'glam Gran's' whisping white fanny hair.

I hear you mate. Convenor was in a no win really. Folk shouting at him to leave were the same ones giving him grief when the bus pulled away.

At the time I thought it was outrageous, and it didn't sit right. On reflection and being a bit wiser in my years ;) then he done the right thing.

Everyone takes responsibility for their actions, even in Lisbon @Yorkhill_True_Blues

The boy was never making the bus if he had fell asleep in the toilets at the ground though was he? Would imagine it was hours later he was found.

Would have been different if he had just forgot where the bus was and was stoating around looking for it.

In hindsight it was the right call.

When we played Rapid Vienna a few years back, I flew to Vienna from Amsterdam, as I was living there at the time. The flight was full of bears who had connected from flights from Glasgow and Edinburgh. If any were on this flight maybe you'll remember. There was a guy army crawling along the aisle, behind the trolley, as the attendant pulled it along. He was opening the drawers and taking out all the miniatures and cans of beers, and dishing them out to everyone on the flight

Parma 98
I think the lowest point was travelling down through France toward Switzerland on the Monday morning having got the midnight sailing from Dover
Snowing heavily, it was freezing
Hadn’t slept a wink
Couldn’t drink anymore warm lager
Heartburn
Needing a shite
Number One Platoon blaring out (again)
Only another 12 hours to go

yorkhill is a man of responsibility .

Did 7 hours from Berlin to Warsaw and back 2 seasons ago for my first euro trip and that was enough for me. Will be flying everywhere from now on.

I know the feeling I was on the Mount Florida bus and took the flu on the way there. Thought we were never going to get through France. I think that was the trip to Parma that one of the Parks buses broke down on a mountain pass.

I've always been pretty curious about going on a Euro away by bus but this is not selling it very well :))

MY KIND OF TRIP!!

I went to Austria by bus for a school ski trip and I would honestly rather stick pins in my eyes than do it again

First one I did was to Copenhagen in 92 with the KP bus.
Some poor sod done his back in at the game and had to stand up for the majority of the trip home.

I can handle the likes of Dortmund, Bochum, Bruges etc. 4 or 5 hours from Calais is doable and the majority of the journey is done through the night.
Copenhagen and Turin were too far, wouldn't do again.

Think you were on the same ferry as us then, the midnight sailing from Dover on the Sunday night, I’m sure it was us (Ayr and District) Mount Florida and Kinning Park.

Also there was always some halfwit on your bus who would get caught shoplifting in the duty free shop on the ferry
I think we were 10 minutes out of Dover when the tannoy announcement came over “would the bus convenors of Ayr and District RSC please report to the pursers office immediately”

I’ve always fancied doing a bus trip but I know it would absolutely kill me. I struggle with back pain when sitting down and can’t sleep on a bus or plane. So it wouldn’t be much fun for me.:)
Friendlies in England and connecting buses with the Glassy boys are my limit now. There’s more than enough action and characters to fill a book on these trips:p

PSG in 2001 was my first euro bus trip, only 17 at time so was a great experience/eye opener.
Did another few after that in early 2000s but nowadays would always fly.

The duty free on the ferry we were on crossing to France for Parma got plundered of all manner of things.

Then heading through France stopping at a service station, quite a few buses, and folk were literally just helping themselves. Cue the Police arriving and stuff was getting chucked onto the forecourt etc to avoid possession. Someone on our bus had pinched a massive stuffed dog and lobbed it out the sun roof, was comical seeing a big stuffed dog dropping out the sky from the bus window :D

Did Luxembourg by train from Amsterdam when we played Progres the second time. Was about a 13 hour round trip, with 3 or 4 stops either way in Holland and Belgium. Way there is great, but the way back is an absolute scunner

Bussed it to Livorno, Osasuna, Auxerre, and Lyon.

Great laugh on the way there. Can be torture on the return. Probably wouldn’t do it again.

Nithsdale bus to Boavista bucket for toilet..
Left on Saturday night after Bheast game back on the Friday night.

That was an epic journey!!
70's was when I did my euro trips, no toilet on the bus, a couple of 2 day trips as well!!
Oil funnel hooked up at the front of the bus and a tube running out the door for a piss, unlucky if you needed a #2 :D

Parma eh. Were you there? You never said :D

Parma was my 1st trip on a bus and last. Flew ever since apart from getting train to Amsterdam for recent Feyenoord game.
Thinking about train to Lyon , free travel loyal
