European Super League Officially Announced - All Comments In This Thread - Arsenal, Liverpool, Man City, Man United, Spurs & Chelsea all out of it

I think it would only be cant play in UEFA competitions while being a player for an ESL club.

To say it would be illegal is nonsense, for instance English rugby banned players competing outside England from playing for England.
They didn’t ban them, they just didn’t pick them, it wasn’t the IRB that had the rule and which of the rugby players was going to spend millions litigating that with the RFU? In any event they made exceptions at times.

Hope this goes through tbh.

Ban them from all domestic competition and ban the players from participating in international tournaments such as the Euros and the World Cup.

And then Boris can put can put a halt to work permits for foreign players for these six clubs. British players only. Wait and see how they react to that one.

They'll be afyer the best 2 British right backs for a start. They can fukc off

Perez is panicking like f.uck.

He knows this is already starting to fall apart and that sooner or later the English owners will be forced to back down.
I don’t pick that up at all! What can anyone do to stop them? No one could stop the revolt in 92? No one can stop this! Well Uefa can if they agree to hand over their bank log in details.

Surprised at Man City as they are close to PSG and want a clean image but obviously they see this as a money spinner that they can’t refuse

Sadly just the way football is going. It’s going to be London Arsenal Redsox versus The Real Madrid Franchise, playing in the final in Shanghai. 4 x 20 minute halves.

Kick them out of every tournament. Divide and concor - pick a weak link (Tottenham?) and lobby them to break with the other 12. Huge taxes on the U.K. clubs. Ban on foreign player visas. Change the Champions League rules to make it a better tournament and more popular for players, likewise the EPL. Overhaul marketing rights etc and encourage the big names back to the main leagues. Ban any players who sign new contracts with the dirty dozen from FIFA/UEFA tournaments for ten years. Very soon the rest of the leagues will be stronger than now and the European super league will be a full franchise with players past their best (MLS anyone?). They’ll be begging to get back in a few years.

No wonder Barca were so fast to say yes.
El Mundo reported on Messi's wages today:

– €555,237,619 contract [4 years].

– €138m per season fixed + variables.

– €115,225,000 as ‘renewal fee’ just for accepting the contract.

– €77,929,955 loyalty bonus.

Inside he will be panicking. On the outside it's all bravado and he is actually doubling down on a grand scale. More a sign of panic that he has to come out with mental pish.

Perez said more

“This is not a league for rich people, it is formed to save football and help the most modest clubs You will hear other voices (Laporta and others) in the next few days defending this. The ones that have a right to have their say are fans and they want more competitive leagues”

Lmao
He's an absolute throbber.

Well some of its mental but some of it is true! For example Barca and Real are fucked financially and need something and to be honest most clubs around the globe will be needing help at some point or have had it. He is stating the 12 clubs are now legally bound to the ESL as of last Saturday - we should know in the next few hours if the U.K. clubs refute that statement

Barca and Real, yes.

IMO the English clubs will end up leaving them in the shit by eventually backing out.

That will be interesting legally if they have actually breached UEFA and EPL rules. As in signed a binding contract without disclosing it to their governing body.

Not sure the 12 can afford to back down now. Imagine the penalties from UEFA, FA, La Liga and Serie A if they do. Don't know how this ends but I think they will push on.

I have a vision of James Caan in Rollerball getting a kicking in Tokyo in my head now

So the 14 other chairmen reading Perez tonight will just have gone up on the Richter scale and I would assume the premier league will want them sanctioned and sanctioned this week.

points deduction, fines and future penalties! Or you kick them out

The Perez rant in full

“The biggest clubs in England, Spain and Italy have to give a solution to the bad financial situation of the game... we reached the conclusion that doing a Superleague instead of Champions we could get back some of the money we lost because of the pandemic. We have to raise more money organising more competitive games”

“Football has changed... interest was being lost as audiences were going down, and the TV rights also being reduced. Something had to change. And the pandemic told us, ‘do it now’ We are all close to bankruptcy 40% of young people have got no interest in football”

Utter pish.

Surely points deductions at the least for this season, leaving Leicester and West Ham to fight out EPL winners ;)

Guy on sky news who is close to the government has all but said only the fans can really do anything about it and the ban on the World Cup or euros is the real fight against it.

The notion that the U.K. government can do anything is just laughable! We are still in a 2 week circuit break since October

Doesn't that back up the fact the government can do something about it?

After all they stopped football altogether for months last year.
