Everton in trouble over alleged breach of Profitability & Sustainability rules (FFP)

Just searched their squad on Transfermarkt and they're still paying Andros Townsend £50,000 p/w.

No danger

Clubs were allowed to offset losses due to Covid in recent years but it was alleged that Everton offset much larger amounts than similar sized clubs so gaining an advantage.

Clubs were allowed to record losses of £105M over 3 years, Everton lost £370m.
An incredible amount.
What’s their income?

Pretty common misconception yeshhhh Scandinavia only includes Sweden , Norway and Denmark .

Iceland is part of Norden / Nordic block
Iceland was populated and governed by either Norway or Denmark hundreds of years ago.
I guess it might have a Scandinavian culture but it’s definitely not Scandinavian in a geographical sense.
You could say the Shetlands are Scandinavian too, using the above criteria.

We’re they not founded by an RC church/monastery?
St.Domingo rings a bell.
as has been mentioned earlier,St Domingo"s was a methodist church, there was talk of a rc cathedral to be built on St ,domingo rd around the late 1800s -early 1900s, but this never came to fruition, instead it became a church for the local rc population in the surrounding areas,

St Domingo’s was a Methodist Church! St Luke’s is Church of England. The club chaplain is the Reverend Harry Ross, the former vicar of St Luke’s and a bluenose to his bootstraps.

If a chapel is considered a church in that context.
The original name as I understand it even in Wikipedia refers to St Domingo’s chapel.

I’m assuming you agree that Liverpool was founded by Orangemen.

The Orangemen must be turning in their graves now with the amount of Shettleston’s supporting them these days.
I’ve seen the Shettleston’s Irish flags at several teams in England.
Man Utd Arsenal Spurs and Everton.

I’ve been at a couple of games with Liverpool and been amongst Liverpool supporters.
I can honestly say the overwhelming amount of Liverpool supporters I spoke with when they heard my Glasgow accent supported Rangers as opposed to the Paedo’s.

The original name of Everton was St Domingos Chapel which became Everton..
Also have a church in their ground called St Luke’s.
I would suggest this may be informative as to their allegiances.

Liverpool were founded by Orangemen.
Everton were founded by members of a Protestant church.

An awful mess. I think dyche will keep them up but if they go down they are in real trouble. Could see them free falling, work on stadium stopping etc. Or playing in a shiny new ground in league one in front of 25k.

I guess it must still hurt Evertonians that their best team in modern times never got a chance in the European Cup thanks to Liverpool getting English teams banned from Europe. That team could have dominated for a while and maybe redressed the balance of power in the city a bit but were soon picked apart. We benefitted big style by getting Steven and Stevens. Hard to see these days returning any time soon which is a shame as they are a traditional big club.

I reckon raging Tims reported them for paying us £96 million for Nathan Patterson.

Plus add-ons.

A true perspective.

The CL game at Anfield had many of our fans getting on with Liverpool fans in the pubs before the game but in a city with a similar Protestant / Catholic split to Glasgow, but with no club split on religious divides; there will always be some who favour them and that goes for both Liverpool clubs.

Yes. The same Orangemen who formed Everton. Liverpool was formed following a boardroom split. Everton is the original club and played at Anfield. Following a boardroom split half the Board quit, taking the Everton name and players with them but leaving the ground to the new club.

I don’t see how Iceland can be a peninsula.
A peninsula is a bit of land that sticks out from a mainland.
Like Brittney in France, Cornwall in England, the bit in Scotland that Campbeltown is on.
Yeah of course I dont understand the logic much either. The reason they aren't part of Scandanavia is because of exactly that too.

this, Everton fc found a ground around a mile away and have been there since then, and the newly formed Liverpool fc taking up residence at the vacant ground at Anfield thus meaning that Liverpool fc play/played their games very close to the district of Everton, whilst Everton fc are based in Walton

I love how Everton's demise has come when they actually started spunking money like mad

Just shows, the cash does not guarantee anything down there

Liverpool has long been in the unfortunate position of being the first port of call for Irish immigrants (Liverpool boat). Most people go on to make a good life for themselves but there are always a few lessers who hang about creating a stink.

The vast majority of Liverpudlians are good people, although I recent times the city had become a socialist hotbed (not religious based).

Methodist and CoE. Apart from that you are spot on.

The EPL has many world class players, but as we all know, it has many "EPL taxed" level mediocre players.

As soon as a team from any country outside England are approached by an EPL club for one of their players, it is an open goal to instantly add 20 - 30 percent onto his asking price.

Everton have been one of the worst in recent times for finding the taxed players and doing so, over and over again.

The Hearings on these matters are behind closed doors and while we'll get a decision, the evidence presented by both parties may remain less than disclosed.

In the previous case involving Manchester City you had a Club with almost limitless funding and although they spent excessively, and perhaps unfairly, the question of sustainability is more grey around them than Everton who have just wasted colossal amounts of money with no realistic way of (re)covering it.

I wonder whether the Sitting Panel on this look at the question of careless/deliberate as is the way HMRC consider Financial Penalties where organisations have broken regulations. If so youd think Everton could be in bigger trouble and being a smaller, less powerful force, theyd be open to being made an example of.

The case and inevitable appeal will drag it past the Summer so its not going to affect anything now but it would be quite a situation if they stayed up then got a future points deduction >= that survival cushion. The relegated Club(s) in their place would be something put out.

Same guy founded Everton. What isn’t as well known is that one man was responsible for the rise of both clubs: former Lord Mayor of Liverpool, John Houlding.

I’ve worked in Liverpool for more than 20 years and can’t stand either team. One set of supporters are overblown and full of shite, whilst the others are like a jealous wee brother and are the most miserable set of supporters I’ve ever seen. I’m sure Everton supporters go to the games just to whinge.

I'm going to challenge you to show a point in time when all 5 of these teams were the top 5 teams at the end of a season. I'm not sure you can.
You could be right, but what he posted is true, in the mid 80s. In fact, to this day I'd still say that's the five biggest clubs in England.

St Domingo’s was a Methodist church/chapel, St Luke’s is an Anglican Church of England and the Orangeman that formed Liverpool was president of Everton for years, that should fix it for you

And as I have mentioned above the Orangeman that formed Liverpool was president of Everton for years

Add them to the growing list, they seem to be really cracking down on this now and they are due to make an example of a high profile club, hopefully City.
As long as we keep our house in order, I couldn't bear another setback/punishment/financial crisis.
I'm growing weary of it now and just want a team in blue playing out of Ibrox with a bit of cash in the bank.

Steau Bucharest chants from Liverpool fans drive Evertonians mad.

They feel they would have won that European Cup.
