Brazil 2014. Mention for russia as i could legally drink and working part time meant boozer for every game throughout the day near enough. Great times

France 98 for me. I was 17 and between school and Uni that summer so the timing was perfect. It was probably the last World Cup where there were still great unknowns, and Rangers could afford to buy ‘names’.

USA was my favourite one although the final was awful. South Africa was the worst one by a distance .

Tough one, but Italia 90 for me. First one I remember and the England run, Gazza and Roger Milla(?) made me fall in love with football full time.

I went for the 1974 World Cup but only for the outstanding Dutch team. They were immense until the final.

Italia 90 for me, because it was my first attended ( France 98 being the other) but Mexico 70 has to be up there too.

Went to Russia and it was brilliant.

Would love to have been at Spain 82 and Italia 90. The latter was amazing on tv as a 9 year old. Think nigh on every venue from them World Cups is still in use now.

Spain should be given this 2022 farce.

I was at 13 different games it Italia 90, and it was fantastic, but have no doubt, for me, the magic of the World Cup all stemmed from Espana 82, and the exploits of Norn Iron.

FBS

Spain 82 was jaw droopingly good .. the colour, the teams and the atmosphere was amazing

it was back in the day when football wasn’t live on the tv apart from Scottish cup finals and teams had a specific style unique to that country .... first time I ever saw Brazil ... they were just fantastic... it’s something we have lost because of the international aspect of league football now which is a shame

I went for Korea / Japan 2002.

The hosts run to the semi, the Beckham revenge v Argentina, Ronaldinho.

I like the early kick offs as well and I was in Tenerife for 2 weeks of it during the group stages.

Great memories.

78 for me, just magical. A lot of evening games and all that ticker tape every Argentina game, even the BBC tune for it. Obviously Scotland put us through the wringer when we thought we might win the thing.

Mexico 1970, Brazil! the greatest team ever! I was only 8 but even then I knew I was seeing something special. On a side note, what age was Cubillas of Peru, the best young player? I'm asking cos when he played against Scotland 8 years later was he not about 36?

That forward line.

Jairzinho, Gerson, Tostao, Pele, Rivelino

Some purists said their centre backs and goalkeeper were rubbish, but they were so good they hardly needed them.

I've gone Mexico 1970, because it was a fantastic tournament. That said, I was at Espana 82, having travelled down from Berlin and spent about 3 weeks sleeping in the back of my car in a beachside car park in Torremolinos LOL, and had a whale of a time.

Voted USA 94. I was 10 at the time and went to Boston a big family holiday. Went to
Argentina v Greece, Argentina v Nigeria, South Korea v Bolivia, Italy v Nigeria and Italy v Spain games and the memories live long. Seeing Maradona in the flesh was amazing. It was a great tournament all round with many highlights.

Argentina 78, i was just 12. Remember all the ticker tape, short shorts, kempes.
Agentina were the best team but they still needed some dark arts, talks of bribes to peru goalie, for them to reach the final.

Favourite World cup was Mexico 86 , Maradonna and all that.
Lived in Brazil during 2014 in a host city and being bumped for tickets . My favourite memory was sitting in a bar with Aide Bothroyd( who was part if the England coaching team visiting my city as if England had qualified they were to play there next) getting pissed watching Columbia v someone.
Decent bloke and had a great night , he paid everything

France ‘98 for me - first one I was old enough to properly appreciate and Scotland were actually there!

Had a weekend in Rio for that after Sao Paulo and went Maracana for Belgium v Russia. What a great time, loved the fan park being on the beach.

I think for a lot of folk its prob the first world cup that captivated them as a kid.

Thats certainly the case for me with mexico 86.

I had just got into football in the season leading up to that world cup.

So many highlights: maradona dragging an average argentina team to glory.

Denmark with a cool as fook strip and a brillant team which fell apart in a bizarre game vs spain.

Brazil vs france was one of the best games ive seen to this day. 2 teams full of players in the twilight of their careers playing attacking football for 120 minutes.

94 for me. Romania. Hagi.

Final obviously let if down.

Also Italia 90, loved that one.

I was 9 at the time of Mexico 70, so it's the earliest one I remember and no other since has really lived up to my expectations. First sticker album, a magical Brazil team featuring a player I'd never seen playing before - Pele, the W Germany v Italy semi-final that I was allowed to stay up late to watch, etc, etc.
