five out of nine possible subs - we put one on

Best starting 11 in the league.
Bench that would struggle to get a start at Kilmarnock.

4 signings minimum needed who are expecting to play 30 league games as starters.
1st
Who knows but a pacey fresh tricky outlet might have helped get a second while giving Aribo a breather....

It’s about game management I’d say....we’ll run these boys into the ground at this rate
1st competitive game of the season and we are running them into the ground?

If you can’t see Morelos was constantly looking knackered you’re extremely blinkered.
Morelos was still occupying their players though.
Had we replaced him with what would be a makeshift player, they’d have less to worry about in defence and been able to mark a positive change in midfield or in an attacking sense.

Am i missing something , Aberdeen got a lift from their subs but we refuse to use ours ,fresh legs new energy new drive whats that all about ????????
I don’t think we refused to put them on but the players were doing just fine We won and that’s more important than putting on a sub for the sake of it.

Might have a point at 3-0, but at 1-0 and no need to change things then there's the risk of upsetting the relative ease of the win.

Its clear to me that the manager doesn’t trust his squad players. Not sure I blame him either

Signings are a must
Sorry mate, I'm inclined to slightly disagree. The 12 players we used were more than capable in dealing with the sheeps first 11 and then their subs. Maybe our manager wants to get our first 11 settled before experimenting with subs.

That boy at Arsenal, Arteta, will never make a Manager. No substitutions made in the first eighty minutes of a cup final. Clearly no idea what he is doing!

Wasn’t a game to make subs, we where winning , it was tight , subs may have upset the balance. We won , it we are 4-0 next Sunday against st midden by 60min and no subs then by all means come back and complain but till then

Yet we still got a result. Is it because people feared the worst or had seen this show before. Yet here we are with the 3pts. Not saying you’re wrong far from it. Maybe we needed to see this game out?

The options off our bench were very poor and would have been too risky firing on Stewart, Barker etc. I felt the game management was spot on from Gerrard and we never looked under pressure

The aim today was to win.

SG changes it and they score hed get slaughtered.

We won. Be happy

We have little or no backup middle to front which is why only 1 sub was made. Arfield is the only one who probably could make an impact coming off the bench. We need 2-3 other players in that can challenge or rotate with the front 4.

There was 1 moment of panic from the corner and that was it. They had 1 shot on target in 1st half which mcgregor saved apart from that nothing else. His 1 sub was the correct sub at the time as it freed aribo in behind there defence. Don't think there was a need to bring anyone else on bar barker maybe for morelos or Kent with minutes left.

If we’d have got a second and third goal I think we’d have used more subs. Gaffer obviously keen to get the 3 points and think of Leverkusen later.

fs we won our 2nd hardest away fixture and people still moaning who would you bring on bloddy sub gk fs man be happy 3 points

We have good defensive options on bench we have no attacking ones

I take it as a sign we need 4 attacking players well attacking meaning midfield and striker

zungu (likely )
right wing option
2 strikers assuming Alfie leaves
If not Defoe plus 1

We are 4 players away from a good squad imo

No point making subs for the sake of it mate.

What sub would have improved us? That's the issue not Gerrard being cautious imo
I think what you’re saying completely misses the point.

The issue is, when you don’t have Anything on the bench that can come on and change a game, you’re going to come unstuck sooner or later.

We won, which is good, but invariably means the OP is getting sneered at just because, well, we won.

The same people will be furiously bloodletting when we do drop our first points, raging that we didn’t have any quality to come on and impact the game.

I'm confused mate.

Sounds like you are agreeing with me ?

The problem is the bench isnt good enough and that's why we didnt make subs today, if morelos or hagi was on the bench they would have came on without doubt.

Okay fine, it was the the casual “who cares we won” attitudes I was objecting to.

What if Kent doesn’t score that chance? If it were 0-0 with 25 minutes to go, or if Aberdeen’s one scrambled chance goes in....we’re dropping precious points because we don’t have anyone to come on and impact the game.

And that scenario is going to unfold sooner or later. a St Johnstone or St Mirren is going to come to Ibrox, hold out for 60 minutes at 0-0. And If we‘re looking at the bench and deciding to stick rather than twist, then we’re in trouble.
