Kincardine - Berlin 904

This Friday 16 of us begin this challenge. Our initial aim was to get out running so we thought why not raise something if we can. We don’t have a set target in mind so anything at all is appreciated. We chose the charity https://www.erskine.org.uk as it fits in nicely with theme of the challenge. We also have serving members in the team and former forces members. We will be keeping track of distances on strava (looking at setting up spreadsheet). We will have weekly/target updates as we go along.

Kincardine - Berlin 904 miles

We came up with this idea during a group chat about running. There were a few in the group who ran frequently. Others commented that it’s hard to be motivated to leave the house and run and we should do something that involves us all.
We came to an agreement that we should run the distance from Kincardine (the place we all grew up) to Berlin. The total mileage for the group is 904 miles. We have a mixed group of abilities from guys who run 5/6 miles every other day to guys who haven't really ran at all.

We decided to begin on VE Day 8th May and finish on D-Day 6th June.

Participants: Stewart Willocks, Gary Horne, Alan Stag, Riccardo Chicarella, Grant Crickmore, John Glendining, Jamie Turnbull, Mark Meneely, Stewart Stanfield, Richard O’Connell, Jamie Macfarlane, Stuart Graham, Derek Simpson, Duncan Duffin, Chris Horne, Scott Graham.

If anyone has experience with spreadsheets I'm looking at setting 1 up so i can keep track of the progress. Drop me a pm if you can help as i have no clue. looking for distance remaining, % complete elapsed time and a pie chart with each member in it.

1st week coming to a close and we have hit 433 miles, we should push past the 50% mark tonight.

Some boys starting to get wee niggles and others are enjoying it, especially the guys who don't really run. They are now running 3/4 miles comfortably.

Thanks to anyone who has donated.

Are you doing it in a relay that's some mileage ?

There’s 16 of us. some who run and some who would struggle to run couple miles. After each run it’s recorded on strava. The info is then put onto a spreadsheet. Some of the mileage the boys are putting in is impressive. The boys who started running couple miles are now running 3.5/4 miles comfortably. I put a wee report on Facebook each night. Tonights in below

Day 8 of our challenge Kincardine to Berlin and we have passed half way 54.51% Completed so far. Thanks to each and every person who has donated to our page and supported us throughout this challenge. 58.99 miles completed today with boys putting in impressive mileage.

Yesterday we completed the challenge however with having Until the 6th of June to complete it we have decided to run on to Normandy 758 miles. Few injuries so it will be harder but boys are getting fitter and running longer distances.

Massive thanks to anyone who has donated. At the time of writing this we have raised £2100 which we never thought we would even get close to.

Wee update. We are a few runners down due to injury so boys been putting the extra effort and upping mileage. Going in that heat the last few days has been hard. We are at around 20% completed on our way to Normandy with just under 500 miles to go in 9 days.

WE HAVE DONE IT!!!

With so little mileage left to do we decided to finish with a walk up the Devilla forest with the boys who stayed local and for the boys who live further a field they walked at the same time as the rest of us so we were in it together just like we have been in friendship over the years growing up.
When we initially decided to do this challenge we only anticipated small runs for fun but as the miles rattled down it became more competitive however the encouragement from every single person helped us through it. There has been massive positives to come from this from health, fitness, laughs, mental health and many more. We originally done this for ourselves however we done it for the Erskine home that take care of Veterans. The money raised through our JustGiving page will go a long way to making those heroes have a happier more fulfilling life.

Thank you to each and every person who has donated so far.

Final post on this.

The just giving page closed at the beginning of the week with the total sum of money raised reaching £3346.25 that’s inclusive of gift aid. We are thankful and appreciative of every donation made. This amount will mean the veterans of Erskine will be able to do so much and allow them to have a happier and healthier life.

They fought for us so we ran for them.
