Gareth Bale

He is a weirdo...plays endless golf, doesn't socialise and fell out with Ramos over the thing they do in Europe where the team go to fans and applaud them. Can't speak much Spanish either and misses all the 'team bonding' outings they try and arrange.

Indeed, a strange guy, acting strangely.

It seems to have been clear for quite some time that he's not a great fit for Real, yet he has done nothing to turn that around.

The press in Spain see him as an easy target and he does nothing about that either.

He's a 30 year old multi millionaire footballer who has managed his career badly in footballing terms and unless he takes a massive wage cut, he may as well hang up his boots.

So we have no idea if quote from Bale is accurate. I'm going to assume its semi-accurate, that he's told someone he is willing to play hardball with Madrid but it's been spun by Madrid's PR team into the worst possible light.

They gave him that contract so they can have no complaints. Think he is getting a bit pissed off at all the negative attitude coming his way considering what he has been part of at Real.

I think there's a lot of players this could be aimed at but certainly not Bale. He's at the biggest club in the world, earning eight figures a year and has (arguably) scored the winning goal in a Champions League final twice. A fall out with the manager can happen at any club and a player can lose his mojo - I reckon if he comes back to England we'll see the "real" Bale again.

A very good point, though those who would abuse McCoist also choose to forget he worked for free and half of his salary for parts of his contract.

Not here to have a dig at Super, what months of his contracts were unpaid ( not covered by footballing debts / liabilities provision )?

I would argue that his contribution to Real will never be looked at favourably, in spite of the glory goals.

I do agree that he could be a success in the PL with the right club (ironically Chelsea would probably suit him best) but why has he waited until he's 30? Money??

I think your last question just about covers it! I could see him going to Man Utd or even back to Spurs but I suppose it depends on his motivation levels now.

As a businessman, yes.

As a footballer, I would like to think playing the game to the best of my ability, as often as possible, would come into it.
He's nearing the end of his career and won't get a similar contract so playing regularly is probably not the top of his wish list.

Strange stance on it from RM and Zidane in particular.

Bale has scored some crucial goals for RM, including the double in their 3rd back to back CL trophy last season.

The fans have always treated him with contempt and now Zidane is at it as well.

He'll be wanting him out the door to fund their next Galactico like Hazard, Madrid are heartless and ruthless when it comes to discarding players.

One big lesson I've learned from watching the NFL, and I think it applies at the silly money end of football, is that if you start hearing negative stuff about a player, 95% of the time it is a very deliberate ploy by a club - placed to friendly media designed to turn fans opinion against the player.

I'd do exactly the same.

They offered him the €17m/year to play for them - he is available and I presume fulfilling his obligations in training etc - if they choose not to play him then that's their problem. They're still legally obligated to pay him.

I said the same with Peña too when people were basically calling for the club to put themselves in a position to be claimed for constructive dismissal. The club gave the player the contract. If the manager chooses not to play the player, that's not the player's problem - he's still due his wages.

With you although the Pena situation is different. He was not "available" if he is an alcoholic, incapable of getting himself in shape to do his job properly.

So long as Bale trains hard, stays in shape and is professional, he has the right to pick up his salary.

What a fanny.
No ambition to actually play football, just cementing the fact that money is his everything.
He would walk into most teams but is happy to sit back and coin it in while playing golf.
Very poor attitude, regardless of the issue with the management.

In his career he’s moved upward from Southampton to Spurs to Real and He’s won 4 CL titles and made a clean sweep of all the the domestic trophies in Spain as well as World Club cup and Super cup wins, not sure how that’s badly managed?

He and his agent come across as right arseholes but it also seems for the past year the Madrid president has been using the press to slate everything about Bale so it isn't all 1 sided.

Bales agent at the races the other day was asked about clubs being interested and who Bale would be interested in going to and his answer was "Whoever pays the most money, they must open the chequebook for us"

I would highly question Bales professionalism and hunger nowadays, although someone will pay the money.

A google search on this seems to suggest these quotes aren’t exactly accurate!

However there does appear no doubt that Zidane simply doesn’t rate him, it’s best for all concerned that he goes somewhere else, but there are very few clubs in the world who can afford him, a swap with Man Utd for Pogba seems the most logical choice

Would you leave a very well paid job at one of the top companies in your field to go do the same thing for less pay at a less attractive company?

What would your opinion of this be if a Rangers player done this? would you back them too?
If l was earning such high money I would clearly be good at my job and therefore be able to get similar money elsewhere, I would expect.

He's largely been on the sidelines at Real and has done absolutely nothing to rectify that.

A player of his talent should be the first name on the teamsheet.

Without derailing the thread - in the case of Peña, the club were legally obliged to support him through his issues if he disclosed them. When it became clear that he was not going to overcome them and due process had been followed, an agreement was reached to terminate his employment with us.

There were posters advocating making his work environment so hostile that he'd quit - isolate him, run him til he's sick, daily blood tests etc - all of which would leave us wide open in terms of employment law. Whether I agree with alcoholism being classed as an illness or not, it is, and legally has to be allowed the same treatment as someone with any other chronic condition.

Yes, I would back them because I'm not a hypocrite.

I am good at my job, I sometimes even enjoy it, but if they want to give me my same wage to be at home with the kids, the pets and to play golf or whatever then of course I'm going to do that. Same wage for nil effort? No brainer.

His character changed not long after the move to Spain. He tried to copy Ronaldo and essentially wanted to be star man but it never materialised and although he was in stunning form in the initial few seasons his form hasn't been consistent and he hasn't managed to take his game any higher infact I would say he has already regressed and injuries have taken a toll on him.

You are right someone will pay the money and I'm not doubting is still a fantastic player on his day but this isn't the Bale of 4/5 years ago.

He didn't work for free. His salary was deferred.
Anyway, this is not the thread to debate that for now.
It's not a debate, unless you think Dave King lied about it.

http://www.eveningtimes.co.uk/news/...y_off_with_former_Ibrox_manager_Ally_McCoist/

Nice of you to prove the point on the McCoist bashing though.
Our chairman made it a matter of public record that Ally worked for half salary at times and worked for free at others.
I'd rather not know your reasons for refusing to accept that.

Wonder what the chances of him moving to China are? Probably some of the only clubs who could actually afford him.

Why? - he is getting £17m a year.

I get that but he's a multi millionaire already and it's not like if he gives up his £17M a year he's not going to earn anything elsewhere.

He could move back to an English club, still earning millions a year and he'd be playing every week.

If he decides to stay at a club where he's not playing, not wanted and clearly isn't happy just because he's earning huge sums then its madness in my head.

I do think he'll be back in England this summer.

It’s a cùnt off between a cùnt club and donkey looking cùnt of a player.
