Some great footage here and some wonderful stars of that vintage era of post war football including Sir Stanley Mathews and Willie Waddell.
Sammy Cox was left with the unenviable task of marking Mathews but played the game of his life.

Big Corky Young was such a giant of a man for both Rangers and Scotland back then. He had a great record against and also helped with the team selection etc. It's sad when you think of how the SFA treated the man as he neared the end of his career. Sammy Cox having a wee dig at him by reminding him he was dropped.

Two great characters both long sadly gone to that big Rangers supporters club in blue heaven.

Thanks for posting enjoyed that, Waddell looked a player...:))

What a record Lawrie Reilly had, my old man rated him highly. A number of years ago I recall an interview series conducted by the late Brian Moore and one episode was on Reilly. Moore questioned him that although he was a Hibs legend would he have played for anyone else? he replied that the majority of his friends away from Easter Rd played for us and he would have loved to play for the Rangers. I'm sure I heard that he was a more than welcoming host in his Leith pub to Rangers fans.

Remember it well, 8yrs old, listened to George Davidson on radio, nae telly then. Then saw it on newsreels in the local cinema, Sammy Cox brilliant as were they all. Impartial commentators and nae pundits and everybody supporting Scotland players no matter who they played for.

Jimmy Mason had a pub at Bridgetown Cross for years. He would have given his right arm to play for the Rangers but we had Torry Gillick at inside-right and he was a legend.

This Was the game where Billy Steel played a blinder.George Young's friend
Steel was meant to be special. Nearly signed for Rangers. World class.
