Gerrard comments from March 2019

What we would do for a young fit Naismith in our team, putting aside what happened he is exactly the type of player we need in the front 3

And a Whittaker, Thomson, Novo, Weir.

A young Whittaker in his Hibs days would walk into this Rangers team. The same goes for the others.

There are no current Scottish players even close to their ability at the moment. That's why we should stay well clear.

Naismith £2m
Whittaker £2m
Weir free
Novo £0.5m
Thomson £2m
Papac £0.6m
Bougherra £2.5m
Cuellar £2.4m

Hardly buttons, bud

They weren't all signed at once.

Bougherra and Cuellar cost less than Goldson and Helander and the two current centre backs couldn't lace their boots. Neither were exactly winners when we signed them either.

Barker probably cost not too far off
a Novo or Papac.

Where are we getting the money to replace our no.1 CB, a RB that contributes goals and assists, a CM that we would be lucky to replace with less than £2m and a striker to score more than 29 and 10 assists in a season? (Well half a season really taking covid and suspensions into it)
with the money we sell them for.

If they are that good why have we won %^*& all, why does our defence gift goals, why does our striker fall apart every season after Xmas, why does our midfielder you rate spend half of the season injured and has about 6 good games a season.

They aren’t good enough that’s why we have won %^*& all.
Sell them and get better players in, this is Wilson’s job.

Players like Jack don’t have “good games” according to many.
the same as Edu or Hemdani didn’t have “good games”
It all comes down to wether you can see what a player does for the team.

As for Morelos, he more than contributed enough last season. Our failings are at others feet imo

Your point on the defence. We conceded the exact same number of goals to Celtic in the league. 19 in 29 games for us. Hardly leaking goals.

Edu and Hemdani were consistent players at a high level who when they came in never let us down and won things

Jack has won %^*& all and misses over 10 games a season or so with injury.
Morelos in three seasons has had 3 great half seasons and 3 awful half seasons were he looked fat and not interested. He goes into a huff if partnered with another striker yet when off form our goals dry up and his temperament is paper thin.

Our defence gifts goals when not under pressure, against big teams we tend to cope, then the likes of Tav and Goldson and the rest of our midfield get slack against the rest of the league and give away goals.

We have won %^*& all and will win %^*& all if they are the core of our team, they are perineal losers that can’t lift and motivate a team when we are struggling.

Absolutely mental comments when you consider he then went out and signed a bunch of kids (Hastie, Barker, Edmundson, Aribo) alongside Stewart, Jones and Helander three months later.

That's my thoughts exactly.

Who exactly came in that was able to 'manage a game better'?

Our signing policy has been a bit bonkers. Needs a drastic improvement tbh

I’m not really sure what making these types of comparisons achieves actually. You could go further and say that we also brought in Prso, Andrews and Boumsong in on frees in the same window as Novo for example. Or on the flip side, you could say that we got Derek Carcary, Bojan and Santala for free that window too. We also paid over £1M for Mladenavic. Good business and bad in every window.

The comparison is difficult to make because the circumstances are totally different. Building on virtually nothing now, compared to a huge amount of continuity in the early 2000’s.
