I couldn’t tell you for sure but the rumours are between 10-15k a week which is a lot of money If is injured for 4 years.Seems to be a lot of people think he's low risk signing but he's not. Its money right down the drain if he isn't fit.
He is going to cost £1m+ in wages.I understand people having a go at every man and their dog for this, but a free transfer on a pretty low wage was a risk worth taking.
Fair enough if we paid couple million for him but we didn't.
The bigger concern for me is bringing in Davies and him not kicking a ball.
I wonder if we really expected Souttar to play a big part this season anyway.
He cost us nothing and helps us comply with the homegrown requirement. If our physios could help him shake off his issues then we have a Scottish international as a backup centre half. It still makes some kind of sense.
The flip side to that is we could have satisfied the homegrown rule elsewhere in the squad, and that’s a fair argument too, but if we were unable to recruit other Scottish international level players then we’d need to promote youth and maybe it was felt there weren’t enough players of sufficient quality waiting in the wings?
I could disagree but it would be pointless as he'll never be fit.He may be good but he’s not good enough for us he will never ever be anywhere near the level of say Balogun and that’s the minimum.
H'mmm ...not everybody.Everyone knew this was going to happen.
So Souttar played through pain for the last six months of his contract in order to get a new deal.
We fell for it, gave him a wage rise, paid for his operation and now we are stuck with him.
Bravo.

Correct, I’m sure his salary will reflect the risk we took on his injuryNo-one wanted to touch John Brown due to his injuries yet he turned out to be a huge player for us at the time.
Hately had problems as well but we got great service from him too.
Getting Souttar on a free wasn't a huge risk and might still work out long term.
Bang on. His pace, presence in corners in ours and opposing boxes has been something we’ve lacked all season.Utterly baffling to sign Souter given his injury record and not just deal in Balogun for the 2 years he wanted, someone who knows our setup and who’s never let us down and would have been perfect as 3rd choice behind Goldson and hopefully a fit Davies.
Doesn’t wear joggers , he’s a slacks kinda guy.Bang on. His pace, presence in corners in ours and opposing boxes has been something we’ve lacked all season.
Wilson should be getting his joggers for this.
Some of the comments in this thread are embarrassing.
Just out of interest, who?No getting away from it the scouting department have had an absolute shite show last 2 windows. We could have signed 4/5 better players on free transfers paid them more wages and not used any money on fees that what we wasted in the summer.
balagoun for a start is better than soutar before you even look at who was free in the summer. That alone is a riddyJust out of interest, who?
Maybe it developed between agreeing his pre-contract and signing.Rangers defenders Souttar and Helander 'out until after World Cup'
The defensive duo only have one appearance between them this season.news.stv.tv
Recurring issue then that he was suffering from while at Hearts it seems.
Bizarre signing then and even more so now.
Doesn’t sound like he did though I think that’s the point.Someone ask Gio why he signed him knowing he was injured
Screams of that with a few players.Doesn’t sound like he did though I think that’s the point.
Agreed and time we knew what was going on.Screams of that with a few players.
Time to let the manager choose his signings, Heavy rumors he had a couple of defenders in mind but for whatever reason we didn't get themAgreed and time we knew what was going on.
Shocking if true , and if true it needs to be out there , it’s his job and reputation after all.Time to let the manager choose his signings, Heavy rumors he had a couple of defenders in mind but for whatever reason we didn't get them
Lawrence also injured.Souttar arriving with an injury
Davies injured
Yilmaz a project player
Matundo either unfit or just not adapting
All the above mentioned not played or playing.
I just don't think GVB wants to play a player he's not identified.
To be fair, Lawrence was starting.Lawrence also injured.
We never got far enough in to the season to establish that for real.To be fair, Lawrence was starting.
Can someone give me a qualified answer here if they can.
Did Gio identify Souttar as a signing or someone else at Ibrox?
Not the first hint at it either. Including youth boys instead of summer signings in his recent his teams also shows his frustrationGio airing some frustration about the signing?

Someone ask Gio why he signed him knowing he was injured
How did he pass a medical if he wasnt fit?
Gio doesn't scout players, he coaches them. So I'd imagine it was the recruitment team that recommended we sign him. We'd been linked to Souttar prior to Gio's arrival and before Gerrard had even left, so he was clearly a player we sought to sign irrespective of who the coach was.
He played about 90% of Hearts games last season, before we signed him. After we signed him, he played about 20% of their games. Tough break for us, but injuries happen in football.
Maybe the team doing the medical missed something?
He’s 100% correct.Seems to me that Gio is trying to let the fans know how shambolic he thinks our recruitment is.
You don't think we've signed him with an injury?Correct mate. People are making stuff up as they go along. He was fine on appearances until a bad one in 2019/20 saw him out for about 18 months, playing almost the entire season for Hearts last season. The fact that GvB says he brought it from Hearts could just mean it's a re occurrence of the same injury he suffered 2019/20. I hardly think we would have signed him injured and then played him to make it worse.
