Claudio Reyna’s 17 year old son Giovanni made his debut for Dortmund today.

What are Rangers fans best memories of the USA legend?

I remember him being instrumental in tearing us apart at Tynecastle in a 4-0 win at the end of 1999, did he have any other standout games?

Interestingly, he scored a famous UEFA Cup goal against Dortmund which I’m sure he will remind his boy of from time to time :))

Funnily enough I was about to start a thread on this.

Should we have moved to sign this lad? Surely playing for the same team as your dad and being mentored by Steven Gerrard could have persuaded him to sign up.

Tremendous player. Exceptionally clever positioning and use of the ball. Of course he was part of a great team before 1st and 10 football was allowed by the authorities. also a bit of self destruct when too many Dutch were brought in as a clique.

Great midfielder who was also playing with some great players at the time which complimented his silky passing and direct runs.

Very consistent and always professional.

Goal against Parma springs to mind.

Don’t remember him scoring for us against Dortmund in 99, I’m sure he was one of the ones that missed a penalty in the shootout.
I beg your pardon mate.

I was actually getting it confused with Rod Wallaces goal against Dortmund.

Great finish against Parma though just looked that one up! Thanks for correcting me

Aye!

Despite my wrong informations it’s good to see he was well thought of as a player in what was an extremely talented team at that time.

I was 9 when he scored v Parma and I vividly remember everyone standing up in front of me in the Copland Front when the ball got laid back to him so I couldn’t see a thing. Still celebrated liked a lunatic as if I’d seen the goal though.

His son made it clear when leaving the states that he wanted to finish his footballing education in Germany then once he achieved his goals then move on.

He will move for big money if he hits his potential and would be out of our grasp.

What a player.

Perfect balance for us when McCann played the other side, or any true winger.

Hugely underrated in general. Probably as good as Gio was for us, imo.

I loved the guy , wanted to call one of the weans Reyna but no matter how hard I tried it was a big fat Fu©k off from her.

Didn't put a foot wrong for us. An excellent player and a great servant to the club.
Seemed to be a great pro and dependable. I always very much enjoyed watching Rangers around that time, Albertz, Mols, McCann to name a few others.

I also remember the enigmatic characters like Kanchelskis and Tugay. Definitely players capable of magic at a given moment.

This current squad you have is also very enjoyable to watch, if Rangers are live on the telly these days I dare not miss it, especially the great europa league performances so far.

Apart from that goal against Parma , the thing I remember most is the look of bewilderment on his face after he got completely wiped out , at the Piggery ,at the corner in the last minute by a thuggish Riseth.

Had he not pissed off to Sunderland after the PSG game we would have won the UEFA Cup that season. He was integral in those European nights and his industry was a huge miss against Feyenoord.

Have some really stand out memories of Reyna

parma is the obvious one

scoring 2 goals at livi the game after 9/11 and having FDNY printed on his vest

getting moved to right back a few times against them and having some cracking games

Sure I posted this years ago. Reyna was, IMO, the best player in Scotland during his time with us.

Got talking to a few Kilmarnock players in the Riverboat casino one night, McGowan being one of them, talked about Reyna, he said players in general in Scotland all thought he was the best player around.

Great player. One of my favourite away games was when we beat Hearts 4-0. Great performance from start to finish, and Reyna stood out along with Mols.

Then there was Parma, the loudest I’ve ever heard Ibrox.
