Glasgow City Council tweet

I looked at the council's twitter feed. Did they post any pictures of the damage?

Edit: I have just looked at fundraising thread and saw pics.

They will now find a family of one of the benches or plaques to be all over social media saying how disrespected they feel. The damage would have been accidental and memorials in a public place will always have a chance of being damaged either through the natural elements or if the public area is used for large gatherings
It’s actually deplorable that they have put these families out in the public domain to be used as a means to further attack our supporters.

A support that has held its hands up collectively to that damage, and raised over 10k in donations to replace the memorial benches.

The same council that’s removed the cleansing bulk uplift and reduced our bin collection leading to a huge rise in rodents and making the city a tip...GCC JOKE

We would have been fine if we just stayed in our own streets and plastered stickers over every lamppost, bin, road sign etc or painted graffiti about the famine or Bloody Sunday on any available wall space.

Tbf the police and council could have handeled the weekend far worse than they did

Stuff on social media will just be a hurting celtic fan who works as the admin
This. I don't have much time for Police Scotland and it's top brass but I thought cops dealt with it well. They took a pragmatic approach controlled celebration or riot was the choice. As for federation clown...how many metal barriers were launched at cops?

Not trying to down play damage to benches but are we talking about wooden benches that have been subject to the extremes of the Scottish weather in some instances nearly 30 years ?

I am surprised they were still there as quite clearly they must have posed a health and safety concern with the likes of Susan Aitken sitting out there of a lunchtime shovelling down a mountain of steak bakes.

hopefully the money raised can go to replacing them with new composite versions.

We’ve had cleansing and parks teams in George Square since Sunday night, clearing debris and assessing the damage to furniture and plants.

The lack of care and respect shown to a place and facilities that all Glaswegians should be able to enjoy is disturbing – but destroying memorials placed by grieving families and friends is, frankly, deplorable.

We believe we have been able to recover any memorial plaques from smashed benches and are now starting the job of contacting families, where we are able. The memorials will be restored; however it is not yet known how much this will cost.

Please see details of those memorials below. If anyone is able to locate the families or provide details, please get in touch with us through private message at our
Glasgow City Council Help
page.

That's the one. Scum to the core

To actually state the names on the benches - and then ask for help in contacting them is a questionable action.
Surely you seek Council permission to have a public bench? If not, then there's all sorts of mad stuff that could be put on a bench.
As others have posted , there is already a sizeable contribution funded to help repair. Not that gets reported of course.

GCC just put up a disgusting post about us on their Facebook and a few bits of litter left yesterday. Not a mention of the fact most of the council cleaners and refuse workers are good bears or the money we've raised. No matter where you look this country is infested and its vile.
It's funny though because GCC don't bother their arse picking up any litter. I am not sure how they could tell what was left by the Rangers fans or other people in the city centre.

The Rangers fans did a better clean up job than GCC have done previously.

Had to log out of facebook looking at all the comments from the poets. Absolutely choking to rip them a new arsehole and wind them up but went for the sensible approach and let them have a cry :shh:
I'd be blocking them. Quite a few have been culled this weekend.

Not any more they're not.

Oh aye the top notch GCC who allowed a tradesman to go out on their ramparts and hoist a Cellic flag last summer what ever happened to that investigation of too many scum supporters to point one out as guilty?

So you're telling me the GCC don't know how to get in touch with the following......

Fkn God help us if there was anything serious on the fkn go ffs!!

This is the same Council that got contractors in to sweep up leaves and trim trees over the winter so that they could keep their employees on furlough.

The same Council that did not grit main roads or footpaths properly during the recent bad weather that led to an increase at A&E for fractures and treatment following road traffic accidents.

I have downloaded the GCC app and will be reporting to them every pothole in the roads that I see, and every hole in pavements to keep the arseholes busy.

an utter shambles of an organisation infested and polluted be sectarianism, bigotry and hatred for the majority of citizens within their rule. A once proud city being turned into a cesspit by spiteful and horrible scum. That's the snp glasgow city council now. It was not half as bad when run by labour although they are still some of their bigoys still there.

Where was the outrage from the council who sanctioned an open top bus parade in Glasgow for the rabids after they left this mess?

Ah yes,the 'celebrations' that turned into a near riot. Have we had the condemnation yet from all and sundry?

What season was this again?
2018/19

Parade was meant go via the Saltmarket & Gallowgate ending in one of the side streets from Hampden as they couldn't finish at their ground as they were hosting the Pro14 Rugby Final the same night

Lack of crowd control force the route to be change and the parade ended going the Clydeside at the Radisson RED Hotel next the SEC instead

GCC ever had a poster up Sauchiehall Street when the dancing comes out and clubbers head to the kebab & pizza shops and the discarded wrappers left before they get in their taxis and the seagull invasion. Probably do but none are wearing Rangers colours. Funny that!

It really shouldn't be difficult to contact the Netherlands Ambassador.

The only reason they have gone public with that one is to blacken our name internationally.

Is this normal procedure if a bench is broken to contact the family via social media? How many benches have been broken in the last year? Why dont they know the cost? They must know how much a bench costs, times that by 5 and there is the maximum.

Normally the council remove all street furniture from the square when an event is taking place. The council has failed here.
