Great Scotsmen Who Never Played For A Scottish Team

As I told you previously, I don't give a shit about Everton, or who you decide is an Everton Legend.
The original post is about Great Scots, and 1 goal in 12 games from a Centre Forward, in the National side, does not make you a Great.

I count at least 6 posts by you now, on these threads, where you have contributed Nothing but your pathetic attempts to correct people. and tell them how they should think.

Your persistent stalking is a bit too creepy for me.
Yeah, great Scots. He's Scottish, which kinda makes him eligible. And I didn't decide that he's an Everton legend. The many greatest Everton teams of all time, decided by the fans via polls, did that. The title didn't ask for best Scottish international players, so maybe you should read things properly, before spouting utter pish.

As for contributions, yours seems to be "he didn't score enough for Scotland, and stop stalking me".

I posted the Title, in case it escaped your notice, I gave an indication of Great Scots,
Denis Law, Billy Bremner, Eddie Gray etc.

Now please, pretty please, go stalk someone else with your creepy nonsense.

Well your title was misleading, badly worded and pish.

Oh, and Eddie Gray made a grand total of 12 appearances for Scotland, and scored three goals.

The OP Title is
Great Scotsmen Who Never Played For A Scottish Team

Apart from the fact he was pish for Scotland, Your hero played for Dumbarton.
Dumbarton are a Scottish team

You really don't get this, do you Son?

Now, kindly buggar off, and go stalk someone else, Mr Creepy! :))

Stop replying, and then accusing me of stalking. Your question was misleading and badly worded. Your fault, not mine.

"Graeme Sharp only scored one goal for Scotland"

I then tell you that Eddie Gray only scored three for Scotland.......silence.

This is embarrassing.

Eddie Gray was a Left Sided Midfielder/Winger.
A Goal every 4 Games (3 in 12)in International football from a Midfield/Winger is not to be sniffed at.
Eddie Gray would have won several more Caps but for horrific injuries.
Eddie Gray is in the Top 3 Leeds Utd Players of all time (behind Bremner and the great John Charles).
Eddie Gray scored Leeds Utd greatest goal ever
That same Goal was voted by the Times of London in the Top 5 Goals ever scored.
Eddie Gray was appointed MBE, in the Queens Birthday Honours 42 years ago, at the age of 35.

You referencing Fans websites as some sort of guide, is about as ludicrous as me citing a Leeds website that claims
'Eddie Gray was without doubt the most gifted player ever to play for Leeds United, he was better than George Best but did not get the same recognition because he played for Leeds.'
Fan websites do have a habit of exaggerating their own.

Your feeble attempts to compare Eddie Gray to a failed Scottish Centre forward with a pathetic return of
1 goal in 12 games (against Malta, no less), who played for Dumbarton, which makes him ineligible anyway,
is about as desperate and cringey as it possibly gets.

Jackie Mudie (Blackpool) who played in 17 consecutive games for Scotland, with a return of 9 Goals,
including a Hat Trick in a 4-1 victory over Spain, which helped Scotland qualify for the 1958 World Cup.

Feck reading all that.

Modern day from the current squad. Billy Gilmour, McTominay, Gunn (maybe had a loan up here at one point?), bound to be a good few more as well. Lot more common than you'd first think, especially since we followed the Irish example of taking anyone with a remote connection. Whether any could be classed as great, if that is the qualifying criteria, is a different debate entirely right enough.
Bryan Gunn played for Hibs on loan

Graham Alexander

Top goal scoring defender until Tav took his record in 2024

Tav when you add in assists smokes him

Eddie Colquhoun, member of the great 1967 West Brom side and Sheffield United legend. Began his career at Bury.
Robert Burns, Alexander Graham Bell, William Wallace, Fleming, Lister, Charlie Rennie Mackintosh, to name a few there are so many that never played for a Scottish football team that I am aware.

Question for the older bears, why was it that in the 60's and 70's in particular, that young Scottish talent was cherry picked by the English clubs? The likes of George Graham and Peter Lorimer were very young when they made their debuts. Were they just scouted from school boy football in Scotland?

Good question.
The Leeds scouting system in Scotland was second to none.

Stretching the word great a bit Alan Brazil.
Ray Houghton? Born in Glasgow but was he Scottish? Played for R.O.I.

Scotland produced a serious amount of talent in the 60's and 70's, and it was a hotbed for the successful English Clubs, whether they picked them up when they were schoolboys, or once they had established themselves in Scottish teams.
Most successful English sides of that period were littered with Scots.
The great Tottenham side of the early to mid 60's had Bill Brown, Dave MacKay, John White, Alan Gilzean.
Liverpool became successful with the addition of Ian St John and Ron Yeats, and you could add Tommy Lawrence and Billy Stevenson to that.
Man Utd had David Herd, Denis Law, Paddy Crerand, and several others over the years, well into the 70's.
Leeds Utd with Billy Bremner, Peter Lorimer, Eddie Gray, and many others.
Even sides like Chelsea would have Charlie Cooke and Eddie McCreadie.
The talent coming out of Scotland at that time was endless.

David Herd
Scored over 100 Goals for both Arsenal and Man Utd.
Made his Scotland debut alongside an18 year old Denis Law making his International debut.
Won only 5 Caps, scored 3 Goals.
Scored 2 in a 4-1 win v Republic of Ireland in a WC Qualifier, where he was the only Anglo Scot in the team. 10 others from Scotland, 5 from Rangers.
Shearer Caldow, Baxter, Brand (2 Goals) and Wilson

Ken McNaught, born in Kirkaldy and only ever played in England. Never capped by Scotland but won a League, European Cup, European Super Cup and Intercontinental Cup with Villa between 1981-83 so a more than impressive medal haul.
