Hagi v Lowry

For me, Hagi has had plenty of time to shine. He’s not shone enough.

In the time that young Alex Lowry was on the park yesterday, he demonstrated far more skill, drive, purpose and furthermore, scored a goal.

Yes this was Stirling Albion but Hagi looked pedestrian and the game took off when Lowry came on.

Hope he gets his head down and continues to feature. Kennedy and Patterson made appearances v Stranraer a couple of years ago and should have been the block to build from.

Lundstram looked like Patrick Vieira last night as well. The kid looked great and I'd like to see him more but its still Hagi's jersey to lose IMO

Im more concerned about the players who are genuinely around the first team and the slackness in their roles last night. Bacuna, Lundstram for starters. Our current midfield with the injury’s and absences is worrying if that’s the quality behind them.

Lowrey was a breath of fresh air and someone who is genuinely comfortable on the ball, looking for it, in space and can make things happen. Very early for him but he should be getting time this season with the 5 sub rule

Our midfield turns up at the piggery in a couple weeks with the same attitude and slackness as we’ve seen in the last 2 games we will be blown away in the blood n snotters maelstrom that games at that shithole inevitably are.

100 mph helter skelter stuff whilst we meander through without breaking too much sweat. Not a pleasant thought.

I’m sure we will be fine by then as last night in particular was a shadow side out. But the Pittodrie midfield was something we shouldn’t repeat.

As for Lowry, a great start and like all I hope he’s the real deal but it’s moonbeam stuff to suggest he’s ready to push Hagi out the team based on 70mins against part timers

With hagi getting injured and Lowry coming on you need that bit of luck. Would have him in and around the squad for the rest of the season. Might even need to start him v livi and county which I am excited about

Point taken mate. Nothing pleases me more than one of our own making the breakthrough. We’ve had too many false dawns though. I share your thoughts with Lowry, however, we need to show patience. He does look like a tremendous footballer though, I totally agree with you.
Fairly play bruv

Okay, we play Aberdeen away again.
Hagi or Lowry?
Must be one or the other.

I love Lowry as a player and have been banging the drum for him for a while, but it's madness to suggest he's suddenly leapfrogged Hagi in the pecking order.

He still evidently tired as the game wore on.

That said, the kid definitely can have a small part to play going forward this season.

I thought King looked every bit as assured last night. So much for him being behind McLelland as some posters were desperate to insist!

Far too sensible!.
Baby steps required for Lowry at this stage.
Maybe some time against Livingston, if we get to a comfortable stage.
Hopefully a start or two before the split.

The evidence was there to be fair.
You can’t help believing that the guy getting the jersey has his nose in front.

I really don’t see what people see in Hagi. He clearly has a great attitude and does have ability but he’s never had a good 90 minutes, not once. For every one thing he does well he does five things badly. He’s not strong enough to play as a 10 and not quick enough to play out wide.

Hagi is a fine player who is involved in a high ammount of our goals.

Cant wait to see more of Lowrie but talk about pressure on a kid. Lets have optimism but realism.

Lowry for Balon dor 2024.

This is where the 5 subs rule will benefit us - hopefully if we are comfortable in some games - 3up for example we will slowly see more of Lowry / King etc.

Hagi has looked miles off it since the first 30 mins of the season after he got injured last night was no different playing against that level of opposition he should look light years ahead of them.

Said in another thread that we should be looking to move Hagi on in this window and cash in on his name while we can.

Lowry needs a chance to develop before coming a first team squad regular, although it's good for him to get some minutes where appropriate. Quality loan for the first half of next season should be the next stage in his development plan.

The lad clearly has bags of potential but there’s no chance he is taking Hagi’s shirt…….yet.

I think it’s more likely he will either go out on loan to a decent level side, possibly the championship. Or we might start to see him off the bench a bit in the 2nd half of the season.

I like Hagi and Lowry both intelligent players looking for the killer pass and love to take a shot at goals and midfielders that can score something we lack for me . I would say Lowry should be on the bench for the rest of the season and given more game time.

Great to see him last night and he did himself and us proud -I’d like to see him if he can sustain that level get moved up and being more involved in the first team with training, bench and generally being around the first team squad in general to help his development.

If another couple of our midfielders are back fit soon he won't be near the bench TBH.

Who knows with young Lowry if your good enough your old enough, the way he passed that ball in to the net was a thing of beauty, I think GVB comments after the match about how much he still has to learn is aimed at keeping the kids feet on the ground.

As usual, FollowFollow totally over the top when a youngster appears and does well. Lowry did do very well last night, took his goal superbly and his general play was decent when he had the ball. He deserves more outings. That's it. It wasn't the midfield masterclass you'd think reading some of the posts on here.

Let's not allow the disdain some of our support have for Hagi to cloud their judgement of Lowry's performance last night though. The lad can be proud, he can - hopefully - look forward to further appearances. As GvB said though, he's still got an awful lot to learn. He will get other chances I'm sure, but I'd warrant it will be a fair while before he gets a start in a game.

Nae, Nae and thrice nae!

I've been following this kids progression up the age divisions since he was cutting about with mad long hair in the babes sides. I don't want that kid going anywhere in Scotland!

Any teams in the 2nd or Championship would ruin the player in him. He's already playing in the Lowland league so he knows what its like to play against men week in week out and that's all while he's been dealing with natural growth and development which can take a hell of a lot out of a young athlete. As far as I'm concerned he needs a bit more stamina and a pound or two in weight but his development as a player is with the first team squad no one else can offer him what he'll get here. Although in saying that I wouldn't refuse him an overseas loan.

Lowry did well and I agree with the point about showing more. Hagi is off form but I hope he's okay to play. Lowry on the bench.

Lowry should be on the bench from now on. You can tell by the way he moves and his technique he is going to be a top player.

He’s a bit of a free kick specialist as well which is always good to add. He was eyeing up one last night but Goldson took the quick free kick.

I think Gio will be moving a few midfielders on and a few out of contract in the summer .
Lowry it's the future for me while a few midfielders at the club are in the twilight of their careers. We now can play 5 substitutions from the nine on the bench so should be giving Lowry and other youngsters some game time during the season. That's my opinion mate.

Alex Lowry did very well last night. He was playing against a team one level up from the standard he normally plays against in the Lowland League. It’s another three levels up to the Premiership (and, despite what some think, that’s a massive jump). It’s, therefore, not a fair comparison at the moment. I do agree that we should be getting a lot more from Hagi.

Absolutely spot on in everything you say.
