How many pts will we get in Europa Group realistically

Our problem on Thursday will be getting far enough up the park to have a go at their defence.

It's our defence who will mostly be under the cosh for this game.

And although PSV were easily the better team against us they are not actuallt an amazing side.

We'll see mate.

Betis will look to press us high, but if we can pass our way through the press, then we will have plenty opportunities to score.

Our midfielders, particularly Raskin and Cifuentes (if he starts), need to be far tighter in possession and more defensively disciplined than they were against PSV.

The bookies suggest it's a 50/50 game on Thursday and I would agree.

I think it'll be very difficult to put any real guess on it. At that level we have no idea how the team will perform or how Beale will even lay them out.

Very pessimistic but really, who knows.
You need to be tactically excellent at all levels in Europe which we were especially under Gio despite his football being too negative domestically. Our setup currently is not one I’m comfortable with at all at any European level.

I think we’ll definitely lose the first two games, home to Betis and away to Sparta.

Puts massive pressure on the two games v Aris, and we all know how this squad and manager cope under pressure.
2nd game is away to Aris

Our passing and ball retention has been absolutely awful. Cohesion is virtually non existent, whoever plays.

So the idea of us passing through them is quite fanciful imo.

And their pace has the ability to rip us apart.

The way we are playing I have very, very low expectations for Thursday, but we will see.

Obviously I want to be wrong in my predictions.

Rangers can sometimes surprise us in big European games so hope springs eternal. However those having a go at posters predicting low totals are kidding themselves on. This team could just as easily be a complete shambles.

Prague away will be the toughest match imo.
We saw how difficult that was a couple of season ago.
Celtic turned over there too with no fans.

I think we will get

Win
Win
Loss
Draw
Win
Loss

10 points.
Finish 2nd just ahead of Betis.
Fancy Prague to top the group.

Wouldn't mind 3rd for a crack at bringing this bad boy home

When in Seville I couldn’t believe how shiny it looked from behind the goal that night.

Would be looking at 9 points 6 off Aris and beat Sparta at home. I think we'll struggle to take anything off Betis with the form we are in at the moment and Sparta away will be difficult.

Betis at home - win
Aris Limassol away - win
Sparta Prague away - draw
Sparta Prague home - win
Aris Limassol home - win
Bet away - Lose

13 points Top the group we are the people!

Some real optomists on this thread. Unless there's a massive upturn in performances I cant see us getting anything against Betis and probably just managing to pick up 1 win and 2 draws from the others. That's 5 points.

I’m well aware of how we are playing at the moment but is there much evidence to suggest that Sparta Prague will be a real struggle. They play in a league as bad as ours and were put out in Champions league by a weaker team that we did.

Very good home result against Dinamo Zagreb but were beating comfortably away from home.

The goal should be to qualifier anything less is disappointing.

Its a great group on paper anyway, really important we dont lose the first game. Id say maybe 10 points, 2 v Betis, 2 v Sparta and 6 v Aris...... unbeaten 2nd place.

(remember in european competition VAR is actually neutral)

We'll have to see. We are playing incredibly poorly with a worse squad than last season.

I recall the mental predictions last season with many people chalking up a win in Amsterdam, a point in Naples etc

The reality is that despite a very average group, any point will be hard fought and hard won now.

With this management and the team playing as it is, only a fool would be confidently predicting a run of wins at this stage. The Czechs and Cypriots won't be up to much but they'll be thinking the same about us.

Betis (home) Defeat
Prague (away) Defeat
Aris (home) win
Aris (away) win
Prague (home) win
Betis (away) Defeat. Total: 9pts (perhaps 2nd place)

We could potentially be playing Betis reserves in Game 6 which might give us a sneaky wee chance of a point there.

A significant uptick in form may mean a bit more optimism but it is hard to see where that comes from right now.

I think you'll be spot on with this.

This thread reminds me a bit of last year's similar thread when we were deciding if we thought we could get a draw off Napoli away or not.
True, but the difference in quality between that CL group and this EL group is massive.

I think people are being overly pessimistic, as is the general mood at the minute

Betis have a much better squad than we do and Sparta are absolutely bang in form.

Both count for a hell of a lot given how badly we’re currently playing, and without two of our seemingly best players for a while.

What I've not considered is we get horsed 5 - 0 Beale is axed and we get

I hope so but my fear is it will be a rude awakening. Betis aren't world beaters but are more like a PSV than Ross county or St Johnstone. They'll score 3 at Ibrox

Need at least 12 tbh. Ideally win the group and save ourselves 2 midweek games in the run-in next year too. Anything less is embarrassing and will probably cost Beale his job if he’s still got one
