Is Steve Clarke one that got away?

Insiders speak well of him but notmuch evidence to back it up so far (though he was dealt with very harshly by WBA) Good coup for Killie but a big risk for us.

His record at WBA over a calendar year was dreadful.

Think he won something like 7 games at one point.

mentally challenged and a a wreck of a man.

All accounts he is a great coach at the highest level but rather poor at full management and his record all but confirms it that’s why he ended at Killie.

He would make a great assistant to someone at us, but him being a fan of them, I could never see him at us.

I thought he`d be a good shout for the Scotland job - never for a second did I think he`d be a serious candidate for us.

Good appointment for Killie and will do well IMO ... Never a Rangers Manager.
If he does do well at Killie maybe a future Scotland Manager

Not one missed but a good coach, always thought he was a good No2 the same as Eric Black and the likes. He did a good job at Chelsea.

They did well getting him and it was a gamble, maybe people down south are thinking Brenda is making it look easy maybe its an option to get noticed again. If he gets Killie in to the top 6 and has a run in the cup its a massive achievement with that squad.

Superb appointment for Kilmarnock in fairness, top quality coach and regarded as such down South. Can see him progressing to a better job up here but never for us. No chance.

He doesn't last at clubs very long.

Time will tell if it's just a temporary boost from the new manager for Killie or if he's actually the real deal. Wouldn't have been considered anyway imo

He would have been a crap appointment as he is a crap manager and Killie about his level. Folk referring to him being unsuitable due to being a mentally challenged should join the 21st century

Having a fantastic start at Killie, but absolutely don't want him at Rangers, poet, and he looks it!

always thought he was destined for the top considering the amount of good teams and managers he's worked with .

The one that got away?

He's managing Kilmarnock where he is reportedly earning 90k per annum. He would be here in a heartbeat if we wanted him but we don't.

By all accounts he's a great coach. But he's lacking in the ability to be a manager. His record Down south isn't great either. So a no from me.

No indications from his managerial record that he could cope with the pressures of being a Rangers Manager. As has already been said, probably more suited to being assistant at a big club, although credit to Kilmarnock for looking beyond the usual network of Scottish candidates.

Depends on how the next week unfolds.

If Steve Mclaren ends up here then you could say Clarke would most definitely have been a better option.

We will probably get him at Easter time though.

Common knowledge down south, he wasn’t doing a bad job at both WBA or Reading and he was bagged twice, why?
Fell out with WBA owner (basically 8th in the league and best finish in 20 years wasn't good enough for them. Illusions of grandeur + lost out on Lukaku last min to Everton which ruined his plans for next season) and Reading job went tits up when he went to speak to Fulham + Clueless Thai owners.

Defo not a drink problem. Know him personally. Good "football" guy but not the most interesting. Definitely not a bitter poet. Chelsea is his team. St Midden up here.
