JAMAICA want Dujon Sterling to be part of their squad for this summer’s Copa America.

The Reggae Boyz have approached the Rangers star and are desperate for him to pledge his allegiance.

Sterling has represented England at youth level and was a key part of the side which won the 2017 Euro Under-19 Championships.

But he qualifies to represent Jamaica through his parents, who are both from the Caribbean Island.

SunSport understands the 24-year-old former Chelsea kid is keen to go.

Jamaica boss Heimir Hallgrimsson has received glowing scouting reports on Sterling’s displays this season.

The defender is doing well under Ibrox gaffer Philippe Clement and plays several positions.

Jamaica face group clashes against Mexico, Ecuador and Venezuela at the end of June and the beginning of July.

And if they qualify for the knockout stages Sterling could miss the bulk of Rangers’ pre- season programme.

Obviously it’s superb news for the player and it gives him more exposure in front of millions of watching fans - however you just know he’ll come back with an injury and miss key time for us.

Leon Bailey slaughtered the Jamaican national team and how unprofessional they are from travel logistics to kit and training wear

Our favourite injured Jamaican is still recovering from an injury he got on Bob Marley duty
Hang in there Kemar.

I’ve the fear about the possibility of injury etc, but should we move to sell him in the future, the fact he is an international player would mean a few quid more added to the asking price for me.

Leaving aside the usual worries about injuries and tiredness from extra games, if both his parents are Jamaican he will certainly feel great affinity and pride to represent them.
