James Tavernier - our longest serving captain since Richard Gough

he isn't a captain in a million years. Lacks concentration, jogs back up the park when rb position exposed

There is no hatred. He is no footballing god though
Wrong again,he is captain of Rangers FC.
No one said he's a footballing god?

There really is some mince being talked on this thread about Tavernier as a Captain and particularly comparing him to Barry Ferguson.

Completely pointless even starting any comparison with the likes of Richard Gough for that matter.

Frankly, Tavernier is the worst Rangers Captain since Craig Paterson in the early 1980’s and in fact he is never Captain material in a million years.

He is excellent on the overlap and his delivery is second to none but he is a liability as a defender too. Two weeks ago Tavernier was at fault for two of the three goals against Hibs which he was likewise 5 and a half years previously in 2016 in the Scottish Cup Final.

The next match against Sparta Prague they played poorly but still missed two sitters at which Tavernier was again at fault. This is time and time again he is at fault and gets away very lightly with our support because of his forward qualities.

Very simply he cannot defend and is not a leader.

In addition, if we had Ferguson in our team now then we wouldn’t be struggling against the likes of Hibs at Easter Road and others that get in our faces.

Not what some want to hear but it is fact.
1) no one ever compared tav and gough
2) we had lee Wallace as a captain
3)what goals were tav at fault for last week? Could argue the second but the defence is all over the place, McGregor not collecting from his 6 yard box for the first was criminal but since it’s him I doubt you’ll moan about that, and the other was a penalty that was down the left hand side
4)Ferguson lost to hibs on occasions so don’t talk crap.

I don't know really get how some people don't realise that former players struggled against and lost to these teams as well. We didn't win every game in every season.

With Ferguson as captain we lost 3 games in a row to Hibs in 05/06.

So eh aye 'facts'.

Laudrup was 'official' club captain???

I have absolutely zero recollection of that.
Was made Captain until we brought Gough back. He was happy to retain it to King Richard. Laudrup was after all just a prince.

I’d rather Ferguson any day of the week. Far superior player and a better leader. His medal haul and performances in Europe are proof of that.

Medals not a fair comparison IMO. We're a while away from being able to compare players across eras due to what the club endured.

How many titles would Ferguson have won slotting in beside Jason Holt? How many would Tav have won taking Porrini's place in Advocaat's team?

Ferguson a vastly superior player of course, no arguing that.

Oooft. You won't get a reply though. People just love slabbering shite about how player X is better than player Y from now without applying any critical thinking.

Saw someone on here hailing back to Gerrard's first season. Said that was a better side. Seriously.

West Brom? How much? Bottom line is his defensive attributes are shocking. He is not inspirational captain material

If you ever think about pursuing coaching football at any level, do us all a favour and please don't.

Is there a reason Ricksen isn't on the captain list on wikipedia? I was pretty sure he was officially the captain rather than just standing in for a few games
Ricksen was never appointed club captain.

That’ll be the, “I wish we had a Gough and Brown” lot.

How's the hangover today pal?

Interesting that he was part of a defence that broke a long standing British record for goals conceded last year isn't it. Not bad for someone who is defensively shocking.
