Jordan Henderson

I’d have Henderson in my squad, numbers permitting. I’d want 3/4 experienced players who lead by example and are absolute role models in training. Brilliant characters for the dressing room, too. They obviously have to be able to impact on the park. But the squad is huge for a reason. He will 100% offer certain qualities that a lot of others will not. England don’t have enough Hendersons, actually.

On that subject. It’s similar to the reasons why I’d keep Tav next season. I wouldn’t even have him at RB this current season. But I’d keep him next season. Figure that out.

He wouldn’t be in the squad every week. He’d be 3rd choice CB, at best. He’d fill in at RB when it was absolutely essential (hopefully never). And he’d be brilliant for the younger players. He’d provide good experience. I bet he’s a very good trainer, too. In-fact, depending on what the stake is, I’d wager the new manager feels exactly the same way.

Time will tell, I guess.

And Rashford

No Watkins or Gibbs White
All 3 of them play in different positions.

It’s his very first squad. There will be lots of different reasons for selecting certain players. Reasons we aren’t aware of. Certain things he wants to try, as well. These squads absolutely always have surprise selections.

Having Henderson in his very first squad is a smart move, for me. Hendo will be one of the players who will manage the dressing room. Phenomenal character; mentally brilliant. And what a trainer.

I have said before that I wouldn't be surprised if we try and negotiate an extended contract with him, with a trade off against a wage reduction next year. Just for example, he would earn 3m over 3 years compared to 2m over next year, and he gets a contract to see him through to retirement (and hopefully win some more trophies with us).

I’d keep tav as well

We need a new RB with pace and a new Captain.

He won't accept being on the bench and he won't accept not being Captain, so it is for the best if he goes in the summer.

Agree absolutely with the top part.

Disagree with bold. But respect your opinion, mate.

We’re about to find out very shortly, either way.

Post is about England though.
And in part, it’s about Henderson’s mental attributes - which Tuchel has already alluded to in his latest statement re. his selections and why he picked them.

His attitude and temperament is a huge factor in why he is one of Liverpool’s best ever captains - trophy wise.

It’s not hard to see why Tuchel has recalled him.

I’m delighted he has recalled him.

Only 3 weeks ago, most folk would have disagreed with him staying beyond even this season, and yet after last night there is the clamour for him to stay longer. The thinking for a lot of us only stretches to what happened in the last game, rightly or wrongly.

I think he will be here next season to take him up to his testimonial, plus the fact he is on a very good wage. Also factoring in he might get a year or two abroad on decent money afterwards if out of contract.

I would be happy for him to stay another year, but we need to find a way to manage him better so that he is able to perform as he did last night. We should be good enough as a squad to be able to rest him in early domestic cup ties, but we have been so inconsistent, he has had to play almost every game. Folk can’t expect a 7/10 every time over 60-65 games a season, and the issues at the club over the last few years don’t stem from the RB position or the captaincy, even if he hasn’t been savvy or nasty enough in certain situations.

The switch to CH has done him a world of good, and may be the way to go. I also think he would do a good job higher and wide up the pitch late on in some domestic games, as he can create and finish. Against the low block and chasing a goal, you want Tav in and around the box. But I would be very wary of giving him an extension at the moment, as the legs and enthusiasm can go very quickly once you get a certain age.

He was excellent last night.

Elliot Anderson should be in the squads he has been superb this season.

Couldn’t give a monkeys about Scotland but they should go back in and enquire if he would reconsider

Yeah a bang average, overhyped midfielder.
He really isnt
  • Premier League: Winner (2019-20)
  • UEFA Champions League: Winner (2018-19)
  • FIFA Club World Cup: Winner (2019)
  • FA Cup: Winner (2021-22)
  • Football League Cup/EFL Cup: Winner (2011-12, 2021-22)
  • UEFA Super Cup: Winner (2019)
  • FA Community Shield: Winner (2022)
England:
  • UEFA Euro: Runner-up (2020)
  • World Cup: Semi-finalist (2018)
  • UEFA Nations League: Finished 3rd (2019)

By all accounts he’s an absolutely exceptional leader.

I’d say it makes sense, keep egos in check help squad morale, keep standards high etc and that’s before considering the playing side as he’s still a very good player to come on when the team needs to be more pragmatic and organised.

More so I’d love him at Ibrox.

More than Gerrard yet a 1/4 the player. I could list plenty better English midfielders with less trophies who were far better players. Trophies aint a great metric.

Interestingly:

Nuff said.

I don’t get any of this post.

Henderson can be rated as a very good, non overhyped player. And still be below everyone on that list you have linked

He can also be a very good, non overhyped player while being less than a 1/4 of the player Gerrard was.

Gerrard’s comments on Henderson are telling.

“Nuff said” is without a doubt queer patter.

In saying all of that. None of these comments surprise me when you read of all the posters on here alone who claim to not watch the EPL week in, week out.

Are you actually Steven Gerrard?
