Scottish Junior Cup
4th Round

Largs Thistle 1-0 Dundee North End

Saturday, 26th November 2021
Kick Off: 1.45pm.

Weather: Dry and cold (3c) with a light westerly breeze.

Crowd: Meagre but expectant.

A low sun illuminated the occasional snow flake and made looking west a squinting experience.

The teams seemed to be evenly matched but Thistle, keeping the ball on the floor, soon established more possession and the east coast club’s journey would be in vain.

However, a sliced clearance and a viscously spinning ball confounded the Thistle keeper and he nudged the Dundee forward which resulted in a penalty. No yellow card it was that weak a penalty.

Against the run of play the ball was spotted but the Dundee player hit a weak shot to the keeper’s left hand side and the ball was palmed away, much to the delight of the local crowd.

This gave Thistle some impetus and a nicely worked move resulted in Blair MacIntyre slotting the ball home in the tenth minute,

Largs Thistle continued to press but at half time arrived with the slender one goal lead.

Half time: 1-0

The second half started as the first half had ended with Thistle continuing to press for that all important second goal.

The sun was causing major problems for the spectators. It was low and blinding but providing no heat. A move to the Shed solved the optics problem.

As the second half went on, the playing pressure changed sides and the last 20 minutes saw Dundee North End come close on more than one occasion.

Although Largs had the ball in the Dundee 18 yard box a few times no more scoring resulted in a close but satisfying victory.

Full time: Largs Thistle 1-0 Dundee North End

The quarter final is on Saturday, 12th March 2022 against Petershill FC.

There’s nothing like savouring the next match when it’s months away. A bit like us knowing we are playing in Europe next year! :))

The soup was vegetable and excellent but had run out by half time. The bovril was great but needed stirred and the Paton’s steak pies were very tasty.

Next match for Thistle is away at Glenafton with a 1.30pm ko on
Saturday, 4th December. Unfortunately it clashes with RFC v Dundee.

Mon the Theesel!

:D

Petershill 2 Lochee United 1

Peasy should have been ahead in the first minute, but went behind after 7 minutes when our defence failed to clear their lines and Johnston put the visitors ahead. We squandered a few chances but got a boost when Lochee had a man sent off.

Scores were level in the 56th minute when Jordan Scott hit a cross from the left which took a slight nick off the defender who was trying to block the cross, it was enough to fool the keeper though as the ball looped over him into the net. We had more pressure but it took until the 86th minute to get a winner when David Aubrey swung in a corner which Ross McCabe rose to head home.

Looking forward to a wee trip to Largs in the quarter final now.
