Kemar Roofe interview

Can't wait to have him back in the side. His touch and movement is something else and we could do with that in the final third at the movement.

Roofe and Hagi's movement is on a different planet. Even when he (Roofe) first came into the team after signing and not fully fit, you could see it.

Roofe, Kent, Hagi, Aribo, Tavernier, Barišić, Morelos even Arfield, Kamara. Add Zungu too, hopefully. The intelligence and movement amongst that lot is ridiculous.

With Roofe and Aribo fit how do we see us lining up?

Davis Kamara Arfield
Kent Morelos Roofe

Seems we will have quite a bit of rotation in the front 6

I had honestly written Arfield off this season, thought he would only play 5/10 games against the likes of Hamilton at home etc. He would honestly be one of the first names on the team sheet right now, there is no justifying dropping him. That goes for all three of the midfield tbh, they are working excellent together.

"The way in which Marcelo Bielsa and Steven Gerrard see the game it is not let’s line up eleven against eleven and see what happens at the final whistle it is not like that. Everything is thought out and there is a reason behind why we are doing it, actual tactics and we will train a certain way to help us in the next game. We will set up a certain way and players will get certain roles and jobs to do for different games so it’s like a game of chess basically. It is not always down to who works the hardest running wise or who is strongest or skillful there is a lot more to it such as formations, positions and how to actually play certain formations. There is so much behind it and there is a lot of thought that goes into it."

Mentioned playing Roofe on the right of a front 3 a while back on here and got slated.

Kent Morelos Roofe with Davis Kamara and Aribo in behind and we’re a right good side.

I'm looking forward to him getting fit and getting a good run in the team. There is lots of competition in the attacking positions which can only be a good thing.

His dad’s name is class . Glendon Roofe . Like players who actually have something to say like Kemar and Broony ( just kiddin’ obv he is the opposite type lol )
His brother is a good guy too, Climbdon Roofe. Roofe can hopefully stay injury free for a spell and help us to 55. Will be a great option to have.

Kamara, Zungu and Aribo will be the best midfield three that we can put out imo.

Davis and Arfield have been great recently but Aribo and Kamara are on another level entirely when they're on form. Zungu has the best passing range to play as the 6

This must explain why Gerrard keeps playing Brandon Barker.

"It is not always down to who works the hardest running wise or who is strongest or skillful there is a lot more to it such as formations, positions and how to actually play certain formations. There is so much behind it and there is a lot of thought that goes into it".

I thought when Barker first arrived he would be the exciting speedy winger who had a few tricks up his sleeve, an entertainer who would excite the fans with his direct approach and flair, but I was wrong about that... he has something else...I think.

He can definitely play that role, but I suspect we'll see him through the middle more often than not.

Great options to have now in those areas. That's where we needed the improvement most.

Totally forgot about Zungu. Going to be huge having the strength in depth once the fixtures start to pick up.

Can see him playing as the #10 when we play 4231 in the league which will be our go to formation for the majority of our domestic games I reckon. Certainly the ''easier'' games.

That is why Gerrard is getting the better of the ginger Bigot when we play them as he is very much a stick 11 players on the park and see what happens.
Unfortunately it works against the diddies simply because they have better players, when he comes up against a team with actual tactics he is fucked

Barker obviously is given a role within the the team on merit.

Sums it up perfectly.

When teams are evenly matched in terms of talent, it all comes down to the tactical preparation of the coaches. They have a manager who doesn't do tactics and a coaching staff with no experience. We have Gerrard, Beale and a range of specialists who have done it at various levels. There's no comparison, which is why we'll win the league.

When Roofe comes back he takes Alfie's place rather than play alongside him. Alfie form is really poor. Take him out of team for a few weeks and have him fight for the place

Interesting observation and apparently the opposite of the approach that TLB seems take.
May also explain to us less informed supporters why Barker is getting game time, he must follow his instructions better than say Jones. Am sure SG encourages players to make game changing choices but not ones that could leave us exposed.

Roofe is actually a natural for the role on the right side though, it's partly where he made a name for himself.

Morelos dropping deeper and allowing runs beyond him suits Roofe perfectly
