The furlough scheme should most definitely be means tested, you should not be allowed to take government money while you are still “cash rich” as a company.

It's not about whether they, or any other business, could survive or not.

If they have no work for someone to do, even if it is at home, then the scheme is appropriate. The alternative is that they lay the person off, which is exactly what the Government don't want to happen.

The Bank of Scotland do not have to half their top executives' salaries in order for the scheme to be appropriate.

It is not about the businesses state of health, it is about getting the employees to stay at home. It is about keeping businesses safe, so that there are jobs to go back to.
 
When you "ascribe your virtues to mother teresa" you are setting the bar VERY low. A woman who used and abused the poor to promote the catholic church while adding millions to it's treasure chest. A woman who died an atheist proclaiming that never ONCE in her life did she feel god at her side , which basically meant she wanted thanks for her so called sacrifices. Christopher Hitchens followed her around Africa and exposed her true objectives which showed her up to be a fraud.

If companies were not allowed to do this then people would be getting laid off, because their employer does not have work for them to do when they were staying at home, which the Government is asking everyone to do.

There must be quite a few people on this site who have been furloughed for that very reason. Would they prefer their employer to have to spend every penny they have before they could use the system. Then fold the business because they had spent all of the money and there was no business left. So no job any more.

Ok but however you view this scheme, it is a tax payer bail out (now and in the future). Therefore, you can see why most people would think it is inappropriate for rich football clubs (eg Tottenham - whether Celtic fall into that category is another matter) to rely on that scheme when they continue to pay ridiculous monthly payments to footballers.

Utilising the scheme will have been more straightforward so do get why football clubs will be going down this route.

If the people were laid off they would be entitled to unemployment benefits.

This is a way to try to try to keep the businesses afloat and keep the jobs there to go back to.

If businesses have to spend all of their money then they will go bust, the economy will collapse and we will enter a depression.

Was just writing on another thread how much I enjoyed watching a guy on RTV talk about the games of his life.. no politics just pure and absolute love of Rangers..
The pious and political certainty of McKenna and his views are the polar opposite of what being a football and for me a Rangers fan is all about

An insult to anyone's intelligence that a piece like this is being passed off as criticism of his beloved corrupt institution .
This has been a common theme throughout the Scottish media for decades, no matter how bad his rotten club behave they hide even the slightest criticism is hidden in a bum kissing puff piece.
 
Not been on in the last 24hours I don't think so probs been covered but we should 100% be availing of this grant too if possible. It's not a means tested grant.
