Leicester's New £22m Ineligible Until January

You'd have thought it would be written into a buy/sell contract that it would dependant on successful registration (especially given the idiocy of the frantic finale of the last day of the transfer window).

I doubt they had time for that ...

One suspects that if this was one of the more fashionable clubs then this wouldn't be such an issue - obviously the Drinkwater deal triggered this move so hopefully they apply a bit of common sense here and can see that Leicester weren't just playing silly buggers.

The rules are the rules!

Except of course when you are Celtic!

Leicester should maybe be asking why someone at FIFA backed Celtic but not them over this , despite UEFA saying a clear no!

If the cash has been paid already could the seller Release the player from his contract and allow him to sign as a free agent?

No, he is technically already Leicesters player but they cannot register him to play until January.

There would be an awful amount of brown envelopes getting passed about and players getting "released" during the season if your idea could work.

Would be astonished if this isn't sorted with the FA getting involved with the clubs and FIFA over this. Sure, they missed the deadline by 14 seconds, but there have been plenty of extensions granted to complete deals in the past and I don't see this one being denied.

Without having a clue or experience how it all works, you think there would be a 0.01% chance of these situations arising. A club has earmarked a player to sign, entered into talks well in advance of the window shutting and then getting the deal wrapped up, particularly in time for pre season and all the rest of it.

That video that was posted on here the other night following the Sheffield United manager around on deadline day though shows how much of a nightmare it all is, when there are essentially four parties involved in any one transfer. The buyer, seller, player and the agent.
