Article Let's Get Serious On Cyriel's Stats

Not trying to detract from Dessers but I sometimes think people get sucked in by what's put into the Media

Apparently Kevin Kyle is offended at comparison with Dessers today. I mean he isn't as bad as that twat was in div 3

What interests me is how many goals has the South Korean Oh scored in Scotland who arrived in January? Why hasn't he been called a flop, along with all of the other Asians and squad players acquired.

Why did we sign Dessers? He can't be just yet shit. He's for one a professional footballer so he must have something. No matter who the Rangers manager is, they don't sign shit players. They do sign players who can't settle or fit in and therefore don't show the potential they were bought for. We DO NOT play attacking football. That's a problem for any striker. I'll remind everyone how a certain Ally Mcoist missed way more than he ever scored. I'm not comparing players but the sieve was Ally was fed ball constantly and had a partner winning balls in the air fit him to once in. We don't play that way anymore, why I simply don't know. The whole sports science, lean players etc has changed the game BUT in Scotland is not changed that much game throwers and strong defence still exists. I agree 100% Dessers seems lost but my question is why? We seen to have bought a player that is not died to the garbage tactics we employ. So I'll wait a little bit longer and see if managed differently and played in a more suited formation, can he do something?

Beale going has done him a favour in some ways, he doesn't quite have a clean slate but I'm prepared to not write him off completely until I see him in a different system under a different manager.

We've seen guys like Itten, Colak and even Roofe try and play that role and entire games just completely pass them by. I don't think anyone but Morelos could really play well in that role relatively consistently (and even he didn't towards the end).

All these guys above aren't shit players and have been made to look that way playing a lone striker role against 11 men defences - look at Itten since he left, scored 23 in 39 for Young Boys.

Going against the grain here I'm not ready to write him off completely, get a manager who knows how to get service to him, get his confidence going I'm sure he will get better. I can only hope, like a lot of forwards he's a confidence player and its at the lowest it can get just now

Darkside of the moon loyal more like. I'm an eternal optimist and even in eternity he is in-fact just absolutely pish.

Rare I slag a player as they don't try to be poor, but he wouldn't start for half the spfl teams. Really poor quality.

To be fair- he actually makes some good runs off the ball.

His problems arise when he has the ball - poor ball control- doesn’t seem to connect properly for headers - his confidence to take chances and shoot on target is poor.

I really hope it is just a confidence thing with him (and others) that failed to materialise under Beale’s tactics and team formation - perhaps a new person may get more out of him and other underachievers that Beale signed

It's crazy how poor he's been.

Giving away penalties, loves an offside, can't control the ball, can't hit the target let alone score.

Just an embarrassing showing all round. People say he's a big physical guy but he's actually a lightweight.

Wtf is he playing at. I've seen the videos of him for other teams but it's like we've signed his twin brother who's a plumber or something.
Probably a shite plumber as well mate!

I'm prepared to reset the clock on him working with a new manager, but all the evidence thus far puts him in the 'dud' column.

If he can recover his reputation from where he currently is it will be a remarkable turnaround.

As ever with football, it's the hope that kills you.

It’s going to take a monumental turnaround in form and physical ability for him to convince me that we can possibly salvage anything from him.

I've tried editing the article - I only use Apple so some formats can go a bit wonky!

Let me know if it reads any better!

He nearly sold another goal on Saturday when he tried to dribble past someone got tackled who stuck the ball on the Aberdeen players head thankfully he hit the post. I have said it elsewhere I am all for giving players a chance but there is no evidence so far of him being good at anything

I think Beale thought he could coach him into being a better player. You don't get time for that at a club like Rangers.

Saw somebody on an other thread saying his injury rehabilitation was seriously botched by Cremonese, with reference to some surgeons comments about it. Seems to have been a total pig's ear made of it and the fact we signed him with knowledge of this is a bit mental.
is it? really?
I would suggest its the rangers way.

That myth that McCoist missed way more than he scored is risible.

When you watch him play you wonder how the hell he's scored 3 goals.

Then you remember one hit his knee from a yard out, one deflected off him and the other was a penalty against Morton.

I said he'd get Beale sacked and he did.

He's actually more dangerous when he's in OUR box. It's two penalties he's given away I think? I was one who genuinely thought he maybe needed more time and he could still pull it around but that display at the weekend was truly horrific. He looks done, and that's being kind.

What on earth have I just looked at? Ridiculous.

Heres his stats that matter:

6 league games (mainly starts): 1 goal (that hit off him)

2 league cup matches (started one got 45 mins in the other) : 1 goal (a pen)

5 European games (mostly starts): 1 goal (that hit off him), & 1 very good assist.

He has it all to prove. Woeful player on a fairly decent sample size so far.
Why did you you say here are the stats that matter when you're shoehorning caveats in most of them, like they shouldn't count?

There’s no shoehorning here pal, merely the facts around his contribution so far.

He’s utter fücking garbage and to suggest otherwise is just daft at this stage.

You've also neglected to mention an assist against PSV and Morton. Unless assists that aren't "very good" don't matter.

Look back at my original post, there’s clearly the mention of the European assist. I’m not responsible for your reading capabilities (thankfully).

I’ve omitted his assist against Morton, and that suddenly makes his start to his Rangers career that much more palatable :))

I don't like to write off players quickly, I think sometimes people can do that too readily. But I look at Dessers and I see nothing. Formation, tactics aside about 4/5 times against the sheep he had a balk played to feet and his touch was like a clearance and we lost possession. A player at this level should be at least able to bring in the ball and hold it for a lay off.

Said after the sheep game I don't want to see him in a Rangers top again.

I would love to be proved wrong but I just don't see anything in him that tells me he has more the way I do with others.

He is rotten and Beale should have been sacked for his signing alone.
A dud we will be stuck with until his contract runs out.

Not trying to have a go but he got 2 assists in the 2-2 game against PSV. I read the post a few times and watched back the PSV and Morton goals to make sure I wasn't wrong.

I would like to see what he can do when there is an actual structure to our play and we are not changing formation every 15 minutes alongside different starting 11's for almost every match.
Suddenly he'll be able to hold up a ball and hit shots on target or stay onside ? He's technically just not great. A bit lethargic at times as well. None of that is tactical.

RISIBLE? I was there I watched him. There was a point where he was hopeless at times. Then fans were more patient and add to that the Mo Johnson effect....... it made Ally prolific...... aided by Hately too. He had some key bad games over the course but again patience from fans and his own determination saw him become what he is a true legend

Bit of a hatchet job. Fan media can be wonderful at times because it exposes you to opinions that you wouldn't encounter elsewhere and at other times it's a hellish landscape filled with trite opinions.

Dessers has a decent track record at a fair few of his previous clubs. Feyenoord fans started a petition to fund the purchase of him. Down playing the teams he scored against in ECL is utter tripe, not every goal scored by Morelos in Europe was scored against Porto, Benfica or Dortmund. Shows the author up as a bit of a half wit.

Arne Slot got a tune out of Dessers because he's a good manager. Micheal Beale has destroyed the lads confidence by starting him when he was 'not up to speed fitness wise yet' and it's spiralled from there. I'm by no means claiming he's going to turn it around at Ibrox, depends on the new manager and if he sees a future for him.
I agree. He's been pish but everyone has.

Look at Torres at Chelsea. To be fair to Dessers he has had the worst possible environment to make a good start in and if he is a confidence player then you could see why his form would hit the floor.

The pressure being stacked on the guy is part of the problem. Booing doesn't make a player play better unless you are in the opposition.

That's just bad management, that's the fine detail Beale lacked, I know he has height but he just looks so uncomfortable in his own box and the amount of times he gets caught offside tell me he isn't the sharpest tool in the box. no pun intented!

I'm convinced we have bought a crocked player.

I think his patella injury has restricted movement in his knee which is why he looks so lumbered.

Good post. Also not a fan of that article, feels completely needless and just jumping on the "Dessers is pish" bandwagon for cheap likes.

Rather than downplay the goals he has scored witb degrading opinions on the opponents, author could have used that time and effort to research the types of goals he has scored, what system waz used and how previous managers have got at least half a tune out of him.

According to Wikipedia he's scored 114 goals in 292 games. Not stunning but not garbage either. He scored 6 goals last season in Serie A in 26 games for a relegated side. Once again not stunning but not dreadful. He seems to be a player that can score goals when his confidence is high but disappears when it's low.

He played 29 times for Cremonese... 8 of those games he came on as a sub and this was before he got injured. They paid around £6 million for him.

There’s players that played in the Masters Football with more pace and mobility than this guy
