When they were in the third tier of english football (98/99) they were getting regular home crowds of 30 thousand.

This was while man utd were winning the premiership and champions league and city hadnt won a trophy since 1976.

Of course the oil money brought out the glory hunters but they always had a large support during their long years in utds shadow.

Including the gallagher brothers.

It's a boring argument now to be honest, anyone who was around in the 70s,80s or 90s know what they were - they actually had a quite few hipster type fans in the 90s because of the Gallagher brothers. Maine Road was always a good day out, was at the first match in the 3rd division v Blackpool, mate at School as City so used to go now and again - we had to buy a ticket off a tout for the Blackpool end, always loads of touts/scallies about round City back then, mate didn't want to go in Blackpool end, Tout goes "fucking hell mate it's Blackpool not fucking Millwall"! Go non league in North West and you come across plenty of lads who have dropped going City/United and other Clubs now.
