Liverpool!

I openly admit that Stevie G has totally changed my half hearted views about who wins the EPL.

The truth is, my “support” of everyone other that us is just for amusement. Rangers winning is the only result that actually “matters” to me.

So, if it keeps our gaffer happy, that’s a trivial enough reason for me to want them to do well. :)

They are a delight to watch so unless you despise them then it's fine to appreciate them as a neutral due to their relentless style of play plus the better they do the longer we get to keep SG.

Worryingly for me as an Arsenal fan, I'm starting to hate Chelsea less and less due to Lampard and how he has them playing, not able to buy players yet arguably got them playing the best style of football they have played under abramovich.

This is true.
Where I work in China I drink in an Irish bar as it’s the only Western boozer around, and I’m friends with the 4 owners, all of whom couldn’t care that I’m a bear, they support Man Utd and Liverpool, they only have slight leanings to them but nothing bitter in the slightest.
Thats what they tell you.

To be fair the Anfield songbook also includes several orange tunes and current favourites sung regularly are Every other Saturday and We'll be coming down the road. All inclusive.

Yes I would agree with the ‘ all inclusive’ tag. I would say the Liverpool support has probably changed more in the last 50 years than any other support in Britain.

I want Liverpool to win the PL this year, but 'favoured' English team changes year by year.
General rule is want the team who has most chance of stopping the team that annoys you the most.

Man City seriously annoy me, so therefor I hope Liverpool win.

If Liverpool do win, they will prob annoy me and I'll want them beat next year.
It's fun to be fickle.

I'm part Scouse from my mother's side of our family. I've loved LFC since I was a child.
There is no love in with Celtic.
Ceptic being Ceptic jumped at the chance to ambulance chase and offer immediately to to play LFC after Hillsborough.
LFC are grateful for that but you have to understand that to Liverpool fans, LFC is sacred. It's LFC and no one else. That's the mentality.
A lot of Liverpool fans like Celtic, because of the match they played after Hillsborough and because of a lot of Irish Liverpool fans.
Theres defo not a love in though, .ost scouse Liveroool fans are 100% Liverpool and nothing else.

from my experience being married into a family of scousers and all reds bar a couple, all are reds and are very left wing anti british and english, and funnily enough the two evertonians in the family like rangers.

I used to attend Anfield in the early seventies with a Scouse lad whose brother ran a pub near the ground.
He was a loyalist and so were most of the pub's clientele who were to a man Reds.
At that time most of the city's RC's gravitated to Everton which remarkably also had a Protestant background and a core of traditional Orange support.

At that particular period, Catholics from the ROI never had a deep interest in football and the huge numbers that would eventually invest (infest ;)) themselves into the game in England hadn't yet occurred, although Irishmen in the North especially Prods were heavily into Manchester United.

I should add at that time, Liverpool had a fairly average record in Europe and Rangers a far bigger football club in international terms had been in three finals winning one trophy. My Scouse mate was a big admirer of Rangers.

Then the entire dynamic began to change.
Liverpool would begin to make inroads in the then UEFA Cup followed by a complete dominance of the European Cup as their team became the Real Madrid of the day.
Slowly football took hold in the ROI and Liverpool would become the team of the Paddies.
A connection with Dalglish from Filth FC would seal the deal and Filth fans who loved Man Utd because they viewed them as a Catholic club led by arch RC Busby suddenly turned turtle and the Liverpool love-in began, much to the disgust of many traditional Liverpool supporters.

RC's in Liverpool who had previously seen Everton as their cultural team of choice began to abandon that prejudice in favour of success.
Everton were kinda left a bit on the shelf.

Strangely enough, after Ferguson made United dominant, ROI fans began to flock to Old Trafford and the cycle changed again
Personally I have never been able to take ROI fans of English clubs very seriously.

As for Liverpool there is no doubt it is a great football club and it also has huge Scottish antecedents embedded in its history.
I think until Steven Gerrard set the record for time served as a captain, Scots had captained the club for more years than Englishmen.

also people forget the people who started liverpool fc were the ones who started everton originally, some broke away to make liverpool. essentially both started by orangemen

Formed through a Methodist church originally...you used to be able to see their church from the main stand at Goodison. St Davids BC IIRC from the official Liverpool History book , although I see it as St Domingo's on line

I'm never one to have 'an English team' like most people do nowadays. However at tail end of last season and in the CL final in particular, i did find myself hoping Liverpool would win. And it is all because of Gerrard.

The more successful Liverpool are now, ,means they are less likely to come calling for Gerrard is a way to look at it :)

Been a Liverpool fan since early 70's.

In fact one of my old school mates commented recently I was one of the first he can recall with a full LFC kit on at PE in school, just as full kits were becoming a commercial enterprise.

Will not stop following them based on false allegations of a Cellik love in.
And as you know myself and your brother used to go to Anfield and the odd away games in the early/mid 70.s

The first time i went to Anfield you knew fine well in the walk to the ground Scotland Rd RC and Everton FC area... Everton/Netherfield Protestant and Liverpool FC area, reading what was written on the walls of these areas

Shankly, Paisley and Fagan built them into the greatest club in Europe. They had it all, football, success, fans...

I think Klopp is going a long way to restoring that position.

(In the interests of honesty I have to admit that Stevie G has had a huge influence in actually giving a fuck about anything Liverpool do, but that's football, that's life.)
I think Paisley took them to another level, they were some team from about '75 onwards, don't think they had a weakness. I'd say he's still their best Manager. That's why I follow their results.

Don't have an English team (find it kind of sad those that do, but anyway), I would like to see them winning it for our Manager and it would be great scenes if they did win it.

It irks Liverpool fans that Paisley was never knighted. In nine years, Paisley won three European Cups, a Uefa Cup, six League titles and three League Cups. He won three European Cups in nine years, while Sir Alex managed two in 24.

Have you ever known a team to get the luck that they get? Everything always falls perfectly for them, the flukiest team in all of sport.

i don't agree with you but i will say i prefer the blues to the reds , married into a family of reds and as much as i love them as people, i've always prefered everton

Aye, all those league wins in the past 20 odd years show that... They are more well known for fucking it up to be fair.

You do not win all those cups and leagues being lucky.

They’ve not had one major injury in 2 years and none of their players ever get suspended because referees choose not to card any of them which means they’re playing the same settled team every game.
Inexplicable goalkeeping howler errors last season gifted them 8 points that almost won them the title and VAR was supposed to put an end to the amount of offside goals that were allowed to stand last term, but as we saw on Sunday with their first goal, VAR is never going to be used against Liverpool at Anfield.
So yes, they have been the luckiest team in English football for over 2 years now, but surely that luck has to run out eventually.

their first choice keeper was injured for 12 games

did they not also get a goal chopped off because of an "armpit" being offside? did they also not get a goal given against them after a foul in the man u game?

i don't like them but you sound very very bitter

I have never had English teams or second teams but my dislike, bordering hatred of L'Pool runs close to that of the Tims, I remember everyone running round primary school with Liverpool kits on in the 80's and I despised that glory hunting attitude and wanted them humped every week.
Having worked in Liverpool a lot and socialised in it on and off I just don't like the place either but that's personal choice.
I keep an eye on Villa results through a family connection and don't dislike Arsenal in fact I would take my lad to a game there as he wants to and I will some day.
I barely watch football now, I think the over saturation on TV has killed it for me. I used to plan my weekend around the sky games but no longer really care, in fact a colleague on Monday told me the Liverpool score when we were talking about our weekend.
VAR was also the final nail in the coffin.

I have always supported Arsenal due to family down South being Season Ticket holders, but since Wenger left I don't care too much.

I don't care for the EPL tbh but this year I am interested in Liverpool. Its about time they won it, they are playing great football and its great seeing Man City collapse on their arse.

Also Chelsea. Transfer Ban, Lampard in... I honestly thought the jump may have been too much for him, but its fantastic to see him do well and hope they can get top 4

I actually wanted to start a discussion of sorts about how much one man can do for you. I didn’t have any feelings towards liverpool at all a few years ago, now I find myself wanting them to win the league all cause of oor stevie
Used to like them in the late seventies and early eighties. They were the best around and had some of the best Scottish players at their core.

Don't have much of an attachment to them now and feel they are getting a lot of breaks at the moment.

From a Rangers point of view we should hope Klopp is successful as it will stop them wanting Gerrard back.

Cilla black had a lovely wee way to describe who supported who in the city
In the film Cilla's dad said to Bobby (Cilla's husband) could you please tell her old Aunts that you were a Catholic and please tell them he is an Everton fan not a Liverpool fan what you are

While working on loan in Somerset in the 60's we had a couple of Scousers with us for a month at a time and most were reds. Since then Liverpool has been my English team and when last in Liverpool about 90% of Pool fans I met didn't like the tims. Most quoted "they stole our song and claimed they started it." as one of the reasons. Incidentally the ROI fans they have are "real" Irish not like the plastics up here.
