Lower league clubs "offered up as martyrs" in wake of Celtic's Dubai trip says Stenny chairman

Stenhousemuir FC chairman Iain McMenemy says he finds the suspension of football below Championship level for the next three weeks “particularly disappointing” and that clubs have been “offered up as martyrs" after Celtic’s controversial trip to Dubai.

A statement released by the SFA this afternoon confirmed that all games below the SPFL Championship in the Scottish Football pyramid would be put on hold at least for the next three weeks.
It has come as a major blow for clubs across the country and McMenemy believes these part-time clubs are being punished for the actions of full-time teams despite following the rules strictly.
He said: “I am very disappointed with this decision. Back in the summer, the Scottish FA tried to suggest that there could be more cases of COVID in the lower leagues due the players being part-time and having second jobs. They said this would lead to more games at our level being postponed. Neither of these things happened. When compared to the full-time teams, the COVID spread at all levels of the game has been much the same.

“It feels like the Scottish FA has come under pressure from the Scottish Government to take action following the much maligned trip by Celtic to Dubai, and their response has been to offer up lower league clubs as martyrs instead. I find that approach particularly disappointing.

“As a club we must abide by the decisions taken by the Scottish FA, and we will continue to do what we can to protect jobs and support everyone’s health and wellbeing. Our Community Help Initiative remains in place and the club and volunteers will continue to look after the community with shopping, welfare calls, and our free hot meals service. It definitely feels like we are in a dark place at the moment but we must continue to be there for each other and focus on the positive impact that the vaccine rollout will have.”
The Warriors were due to take on Peterhead in the Scottish Cup on Tuesday night followed by a full fixture card of SPFL League 2 matches but will now be out of action until February at the very earliest.

Nail, head, etc

Called out for the scum they are and surely its only a matter of time until the entirety of Scottish football turns on them

Other clubs and fans are starting to despise them, the government can't turn a blind eye to them, their media placemen can't stick up for them, their own fans can't be fucked with them anymore - where do you end?

How they got away with their actions at the end of last seasons baffles me, but karma always comes and surely this time they won't get away with it

It’s time for Rangers to be working behind the scenes with as many clubs as possible to get rid of this mentally challenged cabal once and for all.
Yes, we’re having a good laugh at their misfortunes this season, but the whole game up here is in an almost state of ruin because one club can constantly dictate to an entire country. Even now they’re getting away with an absolute piss take during the worst medical emergency in 100 years.

Most of the diddies had their chance but instead they laughed in our faces.F uck em

No, it was one fucking team.

I'll be honest, crocodile tears from other clubs move me not one jot. They all made their beds, they can lie in them.

Much like the general public and politicians, clubs get the board of directors they deserve. They had/have the chance to make changes.
I would sincerely hope that any new leaders ensure that the running of the game benefits all. That corruption such as the 'vote' never happens again. I hope that we are at the forefront of the changes and we ensure good practice. Governing our national game by deferring to one club is unsustainable, morally corrupt and completely destructive to the game in this country.Look at our national game since Rangers have got their act together. Qualified for a major finals and a co-efficiant that has went through the roof.

They reap what they sow ... they had a chance to shake things up and bottled it.

100% right, everyone knows the SPFL and the SFA are in bed with Celtic. Todays ruling only came about via the NHS track and trace. If it was up to the corrupt two organisations they would have swept as usual.

This all day long....

Nor one %^*& given for any of them. They were happy to bend over to the mentally challengeds previously, did they not think the tims would shit all over them at the drop of a hat??

Hopefully the rest of the country is waking up to their shenanigans. I won't hold my breath though!

That's the reporter's words, not McMenemy's. He names Celtic.

Stenny backed us in the call for an enquiry.

The part you have quoted are the journalists words, not McMenemy's.

McMenemy made it clear that the SFA took action because of Celtic's actions.

The football authorities in this backwater are serving the interests of one club and one club only.

Remember this when you next cast a vote.

Sky said tonight suspension of bottom two leagues and SC plus the new testing demands for Championship teams are all SFA changes . But . Scot Gov said that only one c;it is responsible and others shouldn’t be impacted by this.
Surely that cannot be reconciled ?

Going to cost the championship sides to get tested now. Not sure they can all afford to test. I can see the championship being suspended as well.

Its unbelievable Celtic were allowed to do this while people here get fined for sitting on a bench on a country walk considered to be a bit far from home. No wonder the clubs in the lower leagues are raging...hope this wakes them up to the reality of who runs the show up here.
