Manchester United increase ticket prices and withdraw concessions for children and pensioners

Manchester United have faced strong criticism after increasing ticket prices mid-season.

The club told fans in an email that all remaining tickets for home games this season will be £66 each, whatever the age of the person buying them.

The move effectively removes concessions for children and pensioners, a development which also prompted condemnation.

United argued price increase for seats yet to be sold this season would help improve "operational efficiencies" and "stabilise revenues".

But the Manchester United Supporters Trust (MUST) labelled the move by England's second most successful football club "offensive".

"This means that for an adult member to take their kid to a game in the remainder of this season will cost £132.

"Well over double the minimum price they could pay to do it today. And this change is happening overnight, immediately.

"The club has provided zero consultation on the matter, neither with the Forum nor the Fan Advisory Board nor MUST.

"Suffice it to say, the idea that the fans must pay their 'fair share' for the club's excesses and/or mismanagement - and above all, the Glazers' lack of investment over two decades - is offensive.

Was pretty surprised at the prices for their recent league cup match v Leicester, quite dear by league cup standards. Sold out though so demand is there.

They're not the second most successful club in England, they are the most successful.

No one has won more top flight titles than they have.

Liverpool may have won more European trophies, but that makes them the most successful English club in Europe - not the most successful club in England.

I was at Old Trafford a few weeks back and I ended up paying full price for my 8 year old as I couldn’t buy him a junior ticket without getting a membership.

They can get away with it when they have a mix of loyal fan base and tourists

Greedy sods!

The club privately say the decision will only affect a small number of supporters as 97% of available tickets have already been sold.
However, the remainder will be subject to the increase.

There tourist fans will still lap it up.
Pakistani guy I know and used to work with, works in Germany now.
He travels over at least twice a month with his son to watch Man Utd.
He tells me that all in a trip will cost him (Air fares, accommodation, meals and match tickets), just short of £900.
Easily another £50 to £100 on merchandise for him and his son.
I know he can afford it, but for me that's just throwing money away.

Has England moved geographically.
Last time I looked England was part of the Continent of Europe.

Sounds a bit pedantic for me.

The fascination with the PL from abroad is mental. I’ve been going Ipswich games years. This season totally different.

Seen heaps Asian fans in away strips not even with tickets just hanging about outside the ground while match is on. Guys that can’t speak English trying to find their seat for the day. Guys walking around outside with cardboard signs trying to tout for tickets. The appetite for any Premier League football possible seems crazy to me.

I went Boro at home on a Tuesday night the relegation season and place was more empty than full. Couldn’t give em away. Funny how it changes.

Still disgusting, money grabbing organisation tho'.
Football Club my a**e.
I'd wish them them nothing but failure but they seem to be doing that for themselves easy enough.

Or Rangers should police it better , a ticketing App similar to that of the Scottish Rugby one would work.

Freezing out the next generation of fans could happen if we adopted this policy.

Even just getting the stewards at each turnstile to properly monitor the colour codes lit up as punters pass through them would help. I realise they're on minimum wage and half them can hardly speak English, but they do absolutely nothing but stand around and take the odd bottle of juice off a kid, a waste of money and resources.

Also increased disabling parking fees. Should be free of charge.

With several clubs making headlines in recent days over their price increases for disabled parking, SportsCasting has found that Manchester United’s disabled parking is the most expensive in the Premier League.

But despite charging £140 more for the season than any other club, Manchester United have defended a 20% increase in disabled parking fees.

Red Devils fans now have to pay £330 to park for the season, almost double the cost of doing so at the next-most expensive grounds

Rangers should get rid of the concession tickets too many of them getting misused.
Senior concessions to pay full whack ?

Surely you aren't asking a pensioner(s) who have donated to their club, their whole life to the club to pay todays extortionate prices? Its the only sign of loyalty back from the club to this group. Even if you want to get pedantic about someone only going for a few years and are OAP's why the hell shouldn't we be looking after them?

Just police it as others have said, and incidentally I've seen folk being refused entry so it can work.

This already happened up here in Scotland - match tickets outside of season tickets have always been targeted especially tickets available to away supporters

I have never had a concession or juvenile ticket for any old firm league match at the piggery- I assume the same applies to them at Ibrox - this only happens because the SPFL have categorised the matches and everyone attending these matches pay upwards of £50 for a ticket no matter what age they are

This practice will probably become the Norm once feedback on attendance figures are released from Man United - most clubs in the SPFL would actually get away with doing this when both Rangers and Celtic come visiting but would face a backlash if it affects their own fans

When I first met the Guy, all he was interested in was Man Utd and Football in general, and he's never changed. Absolutely zero interest in Cricket, which all of his fellow Countrymen were mad about.

Told me that his Mother and Father were Doctors, and as such he was lucky to have access to watch English Football on TV whilst growing up.
His ambition from a young age formed, and that was to be able to go to Old Trafford regularly.
He's a qualified Process Engineer who has worked worldwide, so like I said earlier, he can afford it.

When I mention to him that it's an excessive cost, all he ever says is "I dreamt I would be able to do it, and it's now come true".
Hard to argue I guess.

Yes it is the same for them

Also all single match tickets for home fans are the same price

Sure their concession/juvenile STH have to upgrade for the game as well

I’ve never understood my kids and pensioners get cheaper tickets when they take up a seat like the rest of us. I’ll be in the minority I know.
Maybe because
Kids don't work, so the payment goes to the adult, to make it affordable for children sustains the longevity of support for the club.

Many pensioners have retired , and live on a state pension, and could struggle to afford continued attendance they have more than than likely paid full price their adult life.

Your comment baffles me TBH. Would you be happy with kids not going if their parents were priced out, and pensioners not going if they could not afford it . Which one day could be you

Probably doesn't do £200 on booze each trip like many of us as well!

The bigger foreign teams tend to have very small areas where you can buy a concession, or even change it game by game.

I've just paid £15 for a ticket for my son for Villa park next week (I was £50) but if I'd moved 1 section more central he'd have been a full price ticket.
