Marcelo Gallardo rumour from TNT Argentina

It's a weird time to be a manager looking for a good job.

None of the big clubs, or even smaller EPL clubs, are looking for a new manager, or look likely to be any time soon.

Maybe we can get someone decent because of that situation.

This guys league record does not match up with the comments in this thread? 1 title in what, 7/8 attempts? Finished well down the table several times.
Literally says in one of the articles he is a cup manager. Not what we want if that's true.

Won their equivalent of the champs league (against boca over two legs) and the Europa league. Really can’t see it but would be a real statement of intent.
He is essentially the South American equivalent to Pep over there!

Surely he gets a look in at a top 4 team in any of the big leagues when they come up?

People think this guy is coming from some tin pot league. River Plate are one of the biggest clubs in the world and winning copa libertadores probably qualifies this guy for a few top level jobs in Europe. He’s not coming here ffs.

Dare to dream! :D

In reality, he won’t come here but there’s absolutely no reason we shouldn’t throw everything we have at trying - similar to the effort we made to try and get Ronaldo in the 90s. Show some ambition and give it a go, worst he can say is no and we go and get Kevin Muscat instead.

I don’t think Gallardo would be interested in a job with us, he seems as if he will have a few top clubs knocking at his door. I would love it if we asked him though, as it would at least show us the board aren’t just settling for the usual suspects.

Board need to aim high. You just never know.

For everybody saying the will get some top job, why ? Not had a job in over a year so don’t see where the big job offer is coming.

Can he speak English?

He's not fluent in English but it has been reported that he has been learning the language.

Any job he takes in the UK could possibly see a similar situation to when Pochettino was at Southampton or Bielsa at Leeds where an interpreter would be used in interviews.

Can he speak English?

Not sure if he can. I am sure I read Mourinho learned Italian really quickly (not knows 7 languages). Not the same language obviously and similar to Spanish but if they want it hard enough they will take the time to learn it.

Not that he's even coming to us. We can all live in hope.

Mitchell leaving Monaco, Gallardo playing with Prso at Monaco and playing against us and the B team playing Monaco...the stars are aligning.

Come on down Marcelo. :))

You know what, I’m starting to feel more convinced we’re getting Gallardo. He wanted a big European job, no one that tickled his fancy has come in for a year - we are a big shop window for Europe, big name, huge tradition, recent European finalists and competing in a tournament that is a good level for us to make serious noise in, can still overturn the league in heroic fashion if he skelps the beasts 3 times, can win a quadruple in less than a full season, win a treble next season and have his pick of good level clubs in England and Europe.

And his behemoth bulge will look cracking in the suit and brogues combo!

Yes he can. Just not very good.

But honestly that is the least of my concerns. We've recently had managers who spoke English just fine and were not up to the task.
I read yesterday that he doesn't speak any English but fair enough if you've seen otherwise

Regardless, there's next to no chance our board even knows who this guy is.

Still fucking mortified thinking that we told Farioli we would watch out for his career development as we didnt think he was ready, and instead opted for Beale.

They'll just go with Muscat. It's so depressingly predictable.

You’re going to feel very deflated when Martindale is unveiled :D

I just find it a bit strange. River Plate have the most titles, but while he was manager he won 1 and Boca Juniors won 5. He only even finished 2nd twice in that period. I don't know enough about him but it just seems like the "born winner" chat isn’t supported by that record.

That’s it! Everyone message Gallardo on Twitter (in Spanish obviously cos he doesn’t speak English language) tell him he’s pish so he loses just enough confidence in his ability that he wants to come here!

Is Gallardo's record at River seen as very good?

Don't the fans want to win the league more than 1 in 8.

Everything else is great.

the Libertadores is the most sought after in that region, i might be wrong about the league titles but I can't remember if that league still splits into that Apertura and Clausura, and then it comes down to the number of points, but they might be away from that system now.

Yes. He is a legend at River.

Due to travel in SA a lot of teams will prioritise Continental trophies over the league.
Also in a country where every club in the top league produces good players and then they are sold.

So one season River may have the cream of the crop but then loose 3/4 players in the summer. Thereafter Racing/Boca/Estudiantes etc may have their crop mature and thus become the best team etc.

If we are even going to ask the question of Gallardo then it might be an idea to use a River Plate and Rangers legend to make some intros etc? If only there was somebody!!!

Yup, the ability to keep a title winning squad for any longer than 2 seasons is near impossible.

Boca just lost one of their's to Man City, only 18.
