Marcelo Gallardo rumour from TNT Argentina

Yes. He is a legend at River.

Due to travel in SA a lot of teams will prioritise Continental trophies over the league.
Also in a country where every club in the top league produces good players and then they are sold.

So one season River may have the cream of the crop but then loose 3/4 players in the summer. Thereafter Racing/Boca/Estudiantes etc may have their crop mature and thus become the best team etc.

If we are even going to ask the question of Gallardo then it might be an idea to use a River Plate and Rangers legend to make some intros etc? If only there was somebody!!!

Yup, the ability to keep a title winning squad for any longer than 2 seasons is near impossible.

Boca just lost one of their's to Man City, only 18.

If he’s considering us it’ll be to play some other interested party off and leverage the wage he wants.

Fairly sure he’s not coming to this footballing wasteland.

I know there may well be very valid reasons outwith money for Gallardo not joining the richer clubs in better leagues listed, however I think this is a bridge too far.

The question should of course be asked, but I think we already have our answer when he has knocked back better opportunities, similar to Potter.

Is Gallardo going to finally make his arrival in Europe with us given the season has already started & we are a mess? Just can't see it...which is a shame, as he's by far the most exciting name mentioned so far.

You know what, I’m starting to feel more convinced we’re getting Gallardo. He wanted a big European job, no one that tickled his fancy has come in for a year - we are a big shop window for Europe, big name, huge tradition, recent European finalists and competing in a tournament that is a good level for us to make serious noise in, can still overturn the league in heroic fashion if he skelps the beasts 3 times, can win a quadruple in less than a full season, win a treble next season and have his pick of good level clubs in England and Europe.

And his behemoth bulge will look cracking in the suit and brogues combo!
Can't see it. This board will shy away from any highly ambitious appointment.
We'll be looking for 'safe'.

@David Edgar

In the very, very small chance that we actually do sign him, or more likely you have to tell listeners again that he isn't signing, this is how you pronounce his surname:

Apologies for my pedantry.
Now get him to pronounce Erling Haaland . I’ve not heard a single U.K. commentator pronounce it properly. Arling Hollan !

I think he would be a good manager for us ,but being realistic I dont see it happen ,if he wanted to be in Europe I'm sure someone would have made a move for him by now.

He’s by far the best candidate but seeing the clubs he’s knocked back I doubt he’d want to come to Scotland. He’d take one look at those plastic pitches and go Gus Fring on someone.

Has to be approached at least though.

We should at least get him over for an interview.

“So Marcelo, what’s your thoughts on the pitch at the Tony Macaroni Arena?”

“Que?”

How's his English? We don't have a team of Spanish speakers, so if we do go after him - and I doubt we could afford him - could he communicate with the players effectively?

I am fluent in Spanish and English if he needs a translator. I also know how to say pack yer bags in Belgian if he needs help with a certain striker

I just find it a bit strange. River Plate have the most titles, but while he was manager he won 1 and Boca Juniors won 5. He only even finished 2nd twice in that period. I don't know enough about him but it just seems like the "born winner" chat isn’t supported by that record.
Fŭck sake

I thought I told you to get on the train?

People who pronounce words in their local accent are all wankers.

My mum is forever saying “chorizo” like she’s from Andalusia. See how mad she gets though when I do the same ordering food from the local Indian. Lispy hypocrite.

We can get the players those headset things they use at UN meetings that translate what he says if he struggles to learn English. Get it done Bisgrove!

Surely Gallardo wouldnt come here? If he did it would only be as a stepping stone to a top league asap.

If he came in and was a success then the big leagues would be all over him asap.

It might be a short termist appointment. I dont know if we need that.

If he comes in,wins the league and then buggers off in June,we’ll obviously be looking for a new manager but we’ll have 56 and a shit load of Champions League money
