McGregor the main reason we won the league narrative

We probably wouldn't have remained unbeaten without McGregor and he did earn us a few points but to suggest we won the league because they have a shit goalkeeper is farcical and even the Celtic support knows it.

A bit of contrition would probably do these duluded cunts the world of good.
Instead its “theyre not that good. If we had a goallie. The fans made a difference”

Instead of looking outward and trying to find reasons for your Clubs collapse maybe have a look inwards.

And while youre doing that get it right fucking up the lot if you.

Quotes from a Gordon Parks article in the DR about Barkas, and following on from John Collins' comments

"Missing in action in the big moments, when asked to bail out his side, he’s nowhere and that’s the truth of it.

Allan McGregor is the point in case, a keeper who makes the big saves when it matters and the main reason Rangers won the title last season, end of story."

Clearly trying to diminish how good we were all over the pitch
Don't click don't buy don't read lol

Until their parting word the press up here will try and belittle 55.
Unbeaten, 102 points, one touch football with goals scored with nearly every player touching the ball plus how well we played in Europe is killing them.
Which is nice.

Its so they can pretend they werent garbage and we werent excellent. McGregor played well last season but the idea he somehow won us 20 points on his own is laughable.

One of his best games last season saw us drop 2 points at Hamilton.

McGregor was sensational last season, and did win us a load of points on his own with brilliant saves at crucial moments in tight matches.
I voted for him as our Player of the Year in the poll on here at the end of the season because I thought he contributed so much.

But, like a lot of things you can’t boil down our league win to one factor- it’s way too simplistic.

Off the top of my head:
Our defence line-up was very consistent and has been playing together for 2-3 seasons now.

We got lucky that we weren’t really affected all that much by Covid in terms of postponed matches or missing players.

5 subs suited us more than other teams because of the quality we have in the squad now.

Good harmony throughout the management and playing squad.

Bolongoli going off, leading to their match being postponed allowed us to get our noses in front and apply a bit of ‘fixture pressure’ for the first time in a few seasons. If it wasn’t for that I think the fixtures had still been set out to favour them- i.e. mostly them playing more games first and us with pressure of keeping pace.

We scored more goals throughout the team and less reliant on Alfredo.

Loads more factors, but those are some off the top of my head.

This notion that because your goalkeeper does his job really well means you are somehow a lesser team is utter bullshit.

Pretty sure Craig Gordon was Hearts poty too yet the skooshed the Championship.

It's like a security blanket they use to prevent them having to confront the truth. You hear it from the tramp journos and the likes.
Comments like the goalie won it,it was covid,it was just training games,we are not good just organised,it was because celik were bad,it was lennons fault,it was the Board's fault and on an on they go.
I believe its not just the hoards that are in denial but their mhanky club as well.Which is great for us because until they accept they are in our shadow they cannot begin any attempt at recovery, long may it continue.

It’s absolute madness this narrative that we are so reliant on McGregor. At the time I actually thought a lot of the McGregor for POTY narrative was created by the media, almost as a way to try deflect from our incredible season and portray that we were under siege and saved by a wonder keeper constantly.

McGregor could have spent the majority of last season on a deck chair, didn’t play a third of the league games. And although he did make some world class saves last season, he himself would tell you that’s what he’s there to do. The January game against that lot a perfect example, media portrayed that Celtic absolutely battered us, if it wasn’t for McGregor it would have been a cricket score etc, but the facts are that are a couple of excellent saves early on - he didn’t face a single shot at his goal after 22 minutes.

McGregor did have an excellent season, and is an incredible player for us - but the biggest compliment I could give him for him last season is his constant focus, he spent massive portions of games doing absolutely nothing and when he was sparingly called upon, he was always alert and didn’t switch off at all.

Surely a man who is paid to write for a living would know its case in point.

Let them think that. Half the games we played last season he didn't even have a save to make. If that's their attitude going into this season we'll canter the league again.
And when McLaughlin had the gloves early on were there not numerous games where he faced 1 or less shot on target?

Letting them believe this shite is good as winning the league again becomes even easier. Parks is so thick he does not even realise that his inane scribblings do not help the mentally challenged cause.

McGregor was crucial for us getting the undefeated season but we’re still walking the title with McLaughlin in goal.

Some stand out saves, though plenty of games he didn’t have much to do.
And that's one of the problems Celtic have - they don't have a keeper close to Jon's ability, never mind McGregor's.

It's clearly not why we won the title so easily but it's 100% a factor and it's no coincidence that one of the first moves Gerrard made when he came to Ibrox was bring Greegs home. He knew how valuable it is to have someone in goal who inspires confidence and will make the big saves when they're needed.

We could have played with wee jay in goals and still won the league at a canter. Giving them shagger might have saved them 10-15 points but they still wouldn't have come close enough to worry about

Not only did McGregor win us the league he also scored all the goals. Took free kicks and penalties and corners and he also refereed all the games. Surely all the dim tims know that much.

We had an excellent team, with the goalie being one of 4 or more players deserving of player of the season.

They had a big money signing who to this day I'm yet to see make a single save despite being here for a year.

However it's a good thing they can't accept their failings. They'll never demand real improvement without doing so.

Still in the denial stage of grief.

I’m more than happy for them to believe they are only a goalkeeper away from being able to seriously challenge.

They are miles off us.

McGregor was one of many reasons we won the league, collectively we were phenomenal.

We would have won the league at a canter with McLaughlin in goal. We still would have won it comfortably if they had retained Herman Munster.

We were stronger in every single area last season, not just GK.

We would have won the league even if McLaughlin had been in goal all season. In fact he did play in 11 of our league games in which he lost a total of 3 goals.

Somebody else mentioned another factor that's greatly significant. Shots against. In those 11 league games McLaughlin faced a total of 17 shots. Around 1.5 a game.

That's a remarkably low number and that's down to the high quality of the defence in front of both McLaughlin and McGregor. If we had McGregor but their defence and they had our defence we wouldn't have won the league.
we'd have won the league with Barkas in goals.

Correct, he was only 1 of 22 other main reasons we won the league.

They're right. Apart from the 25 point lead, fewest goals conceded ever, and league being over by March....set those things aside and maybe they have a point.

The greatest keeper in the world having a fairy tale season is, at best, going to get you 38 points (unless they also score goals). How does he account for the other 64 points?

Let them believe what they like.

There were games last season where we restricted our opponents to 1 shot all game because of the press and shape we used.

We set a new defensive records and were unbeaten in the league.

The more the delude themselves, the better.

The first OF game, they didn't have a shot on target :))

Last year we were miles ahead of them. I could probably played in goals for us :))

McGregor though is the type of keeper that wins you it in a close race. He's worth a bunch of points on his own.

They don't have that in their team.
McGreor's save against the Greek tragedy won us a title.
He could have sat in a deck chair in the SPL games last season.
