Also known as the first game of the 9 in a row run.
A Rangers team hurting from a dismal end to the previous season brought in Gary Stevens and Kevin Drinkell to add further to their "Made in England" spine under Graeme Souness.
Woods, Stevens, Butcher, Wilkins, Drinkell and Walters all started this opening day victory.

Just 2 weeks later it was a Rangers team who crushed Celtic 5-1 and had us already looking forward to a trophy laden season.

Look out for a certain Gerry Collins, now a radio Rangers hating bigot, back then a balding lump of a centre back helpless to stop Rangers bulldozing all before them.

Funnily enough I just watched that game at lunchtime.

Old bigot Gerry Collins getting the runaround was good to revisit!

In attendance that day with my late father. The start of our supremacy. Walter's was magnificent. Unplayable. A treat to be so close to the pitch at Douglas Park.

Same Gerry Collins got me 2 front row centre Stand tickets that day :) :) :)

Was only a 7 year old cub at the time.

A few days after Coop’s testimonial against Bordeaux.

My dad made sure we were in early so we got a spot at the front of the enclosure. As we were warming up he pointed out Ian Durrant and told me to watch him play.

Happier, simpler times.

We obviously played there twice but that season I stood behind the goal (v Hamilton), right behind a certain Ian Durrant and a couple of his mates, patter was brilliant.

Was the other one Derek Ferguson scored the only goal? Not long before xmas I think.

Only missed 2 games that season, this one and the Scottish Cup tie with Dundee Hivs at Tannadice. The Hamilton game I was a member of the KP Loyal and didn't get a ticket in the ballot before the bus left....I was gutted but we won so not a bad day after all.
Memorable times that season,it was amazing.

I remember the game well, we were an excellent side, as mentioned above, we pumped the mhanks 5-1 a few weeks later, 5 going on 8 or 9.

I can still recall the team from that day.

Woods
Stevens
Brown
Gough
Wilkins
Butcher
Drinkell
Ferguson
McCoist
Durrant
Walters

the video at christmas that year gave extended highlights of this and all others, it was great. No memories of the game than listening on the radio

My favourite season from the 9IAR seasons.

I think I've watched that video 1500 times growing up.
Me too, its when I first got into Rangers and football in general as a 6 year old.
Constantly watching re runs of the 5-1 old firm win that ma old man recorded on scotsport got me hooked.
Then got the season review video along with the arsenal season review from that same season Haha.

Before my time but as a kid my Dad had an extended highlights of the game on VHS probably taped off Scotsport. Watched it a lot of times.

The Sash just prior to kick off on the TV coverage is immense.

Was Alan Rough the Hamilton keeper in that game?

Ferguson cut in from the right hand side of the box and curled in with his left foot.

Was at a wedding that day in a Chapel in the east end of Glasgow ( I know ,I know) anyway you know what they are like quite long ceremonies they have, anyway during the long bit me and my Dad snuck out a side door and sat in one of the wedding cars and listened to the 2nd half on the radio with the Chaffuer who was also a bear :)) , we weren't missed

It was the last time I was ever on a train, got the football special to and from the game. My memories is that it was a pretty poor game but 3 points all important.

Again memory may be fuzzy but we struggled again at Douglas Park just after Christmas, a late Derek Ferguson goal securing the win.

Remember Fergie the Accies fan being escorted around the pitch by the police and getting dogs abuse from the bears and giving double back.
I remember in those days for every game against Accies I used to go to Douglas Park and get tickets from there, was a lot less hassle back then

Good old Douglas Park. Remember realising what a great player Gary Stevens was, and after David McKinnon and Shuggie Burns we at last had a suitable replacement for Sandy. Happy days.

Sure I remember something about McCoist playing but feeling sick that day? Did he spew on the pitch or at the side or something?
Think I remember him not looking the best after his goal too, like he was gonna boak. I think you can kinda see it there too.

I was on holiday and missed that and Coop’s testimonial, was gutted then and still am.

Rather bizarrely, my memory of this one was not getting a ticket for the game and ending up watching the ABOD parade to Queens Park that afternoon.

Hogmanay I'm sure?.

Aye, a real struggle it was. We were on a bit of a downward blip and the scum had won a few and we toiled badly that day at Hamilton till Ferguson scored the goal, quite late on iirc? A few days later we beat the scum 4-1 at Ibrox and all was right with the world again :))

As for the August game I was there too and can clearly remember Gary Stevens goal but I'd totally forgotten Ally McCoist scoring - and with a header too!

I liked the old Douglas Park, far superior to what they have now.

I liked the old traditional grounds we had back then. Douglas Park, Fir Park, Muirton Park, Love Street, etc were all so much better than the soulless middens they've put in their places or built from scratch. Remember the pavilion at Broomfield Park? The ground they have now has no character. As for Hamilton's ground today, what is it with just 3 sides? Surely they can put some sort of stand behind the open end, temporary at least. It's been like that for years. And that's before we get to the artificial pitch.

buying the first issue of FF outside

IIRC Butcher had a new short haircut and the Bears were winding him up over it and Gough was joining in

Oddest memory of that day was a wee plane flying over Glasgow & Lanarkshire all afternoon with "welcome to the B&Q Premier League" on the banner behind it, as they'd just begun their sponsorship
