Dundee United Football Club is delighted to officially announce the arrival of Micky Mellon as the Club's new First Team Manager.

The 48-year-old Scot arrives at Tannadice after compensation was agreed with Tranmere Rovers and will immediately begin work in the lead-up to our Premiership season opener against St Johnstone on August 1.

Mellon said: "I am very happy to be here at Dundee United. The challenge of managing the Club in the Premiership is an exciting one. I look forward to meeting the players and am really keen to get started.”

Mellon has vast football knowledge after a football career in England. He has enjoyed regular success both as a player and as a manager, commanding over five promotions at three different clubs and arrives at Tannadice as the Club looks to build on the success of promotion to the Premiership.

Sporting Director Tony Asghar said: "I am delighted to welcome Micky Mellon to Dundee United FC as our new manager. After a rigorous process where we spoke to a large number of excellent candidates, we see Micky as the man to lead our team into the Scottish Premiership and continue the success we have achieved so far.

"Having known Micky for many years, his record of being a winner cannot be understated and his enthusiasm and standing in the game make him an ideal fit to the culture at Tannadice. He is a players’ manager and someone who will embrace the fans and local community which is highlighted by him moving to the local area with his family. I would also like to thank Mark Palios at Tranmere for his professional and respectful manner during the negotiations.

"Micky will meet the staff and players tomorrow as we look forward to a new era in the history of Dundee United FC."

Our new manager will be introduced to the media on Wednesday as the countdown to the big kick-off on August 1 continues.

Genuinely never heard of this guy before

hate him now though

Will be best buddies with TLB and the likes of Tony the Tim in the dugout areas. Provo fest scumbags.

Imagine being at school and the headmaster comes in to introduce your new teacher to the class....everyone say good morning Mr Melon.

I'm sure a few will have been sent to stand outside the dressing room today

Take "em down Micky. Guaranteed a fruitless spell with mellon at the tangerine home of wine grapes.
A costermongers nightmare. Won't last long.

I played football with him growing up and was a good guy . Never thought he was bitter to be fair

Took tranmere down this season hopefully will take the dabs down next season if the actually get to play in the premier league.

Seems to have done ok in spells in England but who knows if it will work in Scotland. For some reason it reminds me of Colin Calderwood at Hibs, maybe since it seems such a random appointment.

Why would anyone take such a drop down in class unless he knew he was getting the sack. It's a big step down to manage a wee crappy team like dundee united. No ambition and relegation and bankruptcy beckons, hopefully. Don;t give them your money.
