Morelos on free kicks

With Tav being a bit hit or miss maybe
we should add a bit of variety.
Anybody who can hit a ball as hard and straight as him deserves a chance. If he gets it beyond the wall and on target the keeper is going to
have a helluva job preventing a goal.
Just think of the excitement as he starts his run up. Could he be the new
Big Jörg ?

‘A bit hit and miss’

Name a free kick taker that isn’t? What went through your head that made you post this?

If he could hit a ball from 25 yards im pretty sure we would have seen evidence of it so far. I want Morelos where a striker should be - sniffing about rebounds.

That brings back bad memories of the three touch Boyd \ McCulloch free kick routine
You forgot the fourth touch where it inevitably hit straight into the wall, who were about two yards away by the time the shot was finally hit.

I'd rather see Davis or Jack hit them before Morelos.

Tav is and will remain the free kick taker for a reason, and rightly so.

I can't really recall Morelos even shooting from outside the box much, let alone him taking free kicks. He isnt a particularly clean striker of the ball to be honest.

I actually don't think Morelos is a particularly clean striker of the ball. He generates a lot of pace considering he never seems to catch the ball flush.

A lot of his goals come from him not quite connecting as the keeper is expecting. Hard to describe but there are occassions especially when 1v1 where he scuffs it. St Mirren and Rapid at home last season come to mind.

I don't see Davis or Jack having enough power in their shots to be honest. Ojo looks like he can fair strike a ball though.

Tavernier is the best dead-ball specialist in the country, and if he's not taking them Barisic should be.

He is very good at swinging the ball in but he hardly ever scores freekicks these days. He got one against the mentally challengeds but it wasnt intentional so im not really counting that, cant think of the last time he scored one before that. Whereas with them getting thumbheid back he is definitely far more dangerous at freekicks than tav so its nonesense to say tav is the best in the country.

Did we score any direct free kicks last year? Other than Tav's against celtic, but wasn't really a shot at goal. Last i can remember was Alves at Hibs last day of the previous season.

Tav scored at Ibrox against St Johnstone and Halliday scored at Dens

Freekicks are about a lot more than just scoring from direct ones. You also have to put in good deliveries.

We have been absolutely brilliant attacking set pieces so far this season. There is no reason to change what we are doing.

And Griffiths is only good at free kicks when he's sober. Which, for most of last season, wasn't the case. Your best ability is availability etc.

Most of Taverniers free kicks are absolutely crap. He has an incredible talent fro whipping brilliant crosses into the box while play is moving, but his set pieces are pish most of the time.

Although I have to note he has hit a couple of really good corners for far this season.

Most are crap but this was a good one

Jig and Boyd could hit it hard and straight too.

Worse free kick set up ever.

Touch. Run up. Blast. Hit wall.

Jesus, nightmare material man.

By the time Jig had got to the ball, so had the fucking wall.

As for the OP, naw.

Tav from one side, Barisic or Halliday from the other. That's close to perfect.

Oh god no, never again. Unless we want to see a free kick go just wide of the post and just over the bar, then we keep Steven Davis far away from FKs

This type of thinking is the reason Scottish football is, where it is

No technique, just smash things hard and hope for the best

I did say that he is good at putting the ball in box but when its a direct shot on goal i wouldnt be against giving someone else a go. The thread is obviously about trying something else when it comes to an attempt on goal because obviously the op isnt suggesting morelos we take morelos out the box and have him hit a freekick when its going to be a cross thats needed. Tav can still hit all the ones he's good at.

Maybe instead of the team just playing matches on a Saturday and Thursday, the team should do some training in between? That way Gerrard can have a look at the players, try different things, and figure out who's good at what.

You may be on to something, Alfie may be the best free kick taker the world has ever seen, it's just that Stevie G has never seen him hit one, ever.

Why rightly so how many has he scored for us in the last 2 seasons apart from the scum game which let's be honest was their bad defending, we have to be able to talk about Tavernier mistakes as well as his good points.
