New Manager Discussion Thread

Genuinely wanting to see where the majority are with this because haven’t really heard much in the last few weeks from fans.

Who we wanting as gaffer in the summer?

I’m sick of the modern football way of managers endlessly pushing a system, whether it works or not.

Man Utd are a classic case of this.

I want a winner. A bit of a bastard. Someone who isn’t scared of changing a system depending on the opponent. Preferably someone with a knowledge of our club or at least has managed a club that has to win and often breakdown packed defences.

Who that is I do not know.

Someone who is currently in a job for starters! Would expect the 49ers to pay big wages for someone with a high calibre. Foreign managers give me the fear mind you that they don't understand how to break down low blocks or don't understand Scottish Football. Muscat is Australian so basically British and an ex player so he's my number one choice currently. The biggest thing is the board MUST back him or Tavernier will see of yet another Manager.

Its difficult because there's so many boxes we want ticked. Some candidates tick more than others. Muscat answers alot of footballing questions. But immediately people are put off by his links to Postecoglou. Jose would be a big name and would perhaps generate the "siege mentality" our support and club has gained success from. But it would be very costly and an expensive mistake if it failed. The "Rangers men" is another but be honest, how many is there out there that will win us the title? To be honest, thats the only box that needs ticked.

Not a clue but I’m assuming the guys coming in to buy the club have a shortlist in place and have begun sounding out managers

Hopefully more of a thorough process this time, first priority is someone who can coach and setup a team to dominate games and break down a low block as we face them every week

Rumours on other sites we are down to final 3 in the process, one manages in English Championship.

Other one is the new DOF is Swedish.
Edit: Ben Rosen, current part of Swedish national set up, was at Blackburn Rovers before that.

My toxic trait is I genuinely think Russell Martin would do well.

I mean, we are expected to control the game in 90% of the games we play, let’s hire someone who actually wants to play that way.
upside is we'd maybe get Lucy Pinder up here at Ibrox at some point, unless they aren't together now

problem is we've probably seen enough diddies in the team to last a lifetime at this point :(

Bielsa for me, get the team pressing and playing a passing attacking game. Someone at Leeds will have his number.
Would love him to come here but is he not managing one of the South American national teams, slips my mind which one?

The other site being RangersRumours.

So, we can safely conclude that whoever started the rumour most likely has thumbs, and occasional internet access.

But not a lot else.

Stopped clocks and all that.

Tbf there is two posts on this thread saying Zindine Zidane so who's more mental is up for debate.

David Wagner one of the three?

We need a manager with an attacking style of play.

It’s easier to coach without the ball and have a plan on how to counteract the opposition but it is an entirely different skill set to be able to organise a team in the attacking phase, having routined and robust ways of scoring goals.

We aren’t a club that traditionally adopts such such an approach so it would require quite a shift in thinking.

I think you need to look at the success of Spanish football and this its coaches. Their quality of coaching with the ball has led the way essentially.

RangersRumours getting 1 thing right a few years ago was the worst thing to happen, everything since being treated as credible. I suppose broken clocks etc

Well the guy Ben Rosen is a fitness coach, so would be some pivot for him to suddenly get a DOF gig
He is that. Last article I could find about him was this. Saying he was looking at making transition to DOF with Burton. But even then I don't think a first timer in the role is what we need, would think we need someone more experience and track record in the role.

My guess is the new manager appointment will have 99% of us running to Wikipedia to see who he is. Probably aged 40-50 and German, Austrian, Scandanavian or somewhere else in northern Europe. Highly rated and with at least one trophy under his belt as a manager. You could say this was the template for Gio and Phillipe and both of those appointments made sense on paper and had the support of most fans at the time. I just can't see a coach coming in from outside Europe even if the new owners have global contacts.

I dont see a British manager getting it. I don't think there is an obvious candidate there. I still see a lot of people wanting Muscat but have any of those watched much of the Chinese league to see how he plays? I haven't, so can't get behind that. It's at least comforting that the McInnes chat has been extinguished.

I hope we're doing it properly and appointing a sporting director first who then leads the first team coach recruitment.

If you want world wide attention and huge advertising for free, then you want someone who can command that attention.
I dreamt the Special one, but dreamnt I was gladiator the night before the National so put £50 bangers to win on Maximus  there's a reason I don't gamble and it's no mg dyslexia

Rohl is an up and coming manager and might be the kind of profile we look at. I wouldn't mind him as his team play decent stuff.

I'm sure I read that Southampton are after him and a deal maybe agreed.
Southampton and Leicester both linked

Think I read he’d previously been a coach at one of them so likely to end up there but can’t remember which!
