New Manager Discussion Thread

We’ve have definitely spoke to O’Neill and Martin and it’s fairly obvious we will have at least asked Gerrard the question. The Telegraph will have got their information from somewhere.

I find it mental that Rohl is seen on here as an exciting up and coming manager but Martin gets absolutely slaughtered.
How do we know we have spoken to those blokes Jazza ? I have seen the posts here re Martin but what about O’Neill n Gerrard?

I don’t like the idea of Martin or others mentioned, not a glamorous enough name for me. I do however like the idea the idea of the new owners appointing one of the above based on the interview processes and data available to them regardless of what us supporters think. I still think it’ll be Gerrard, with a whole new backroom team. I’ll get behind whoever it is!
Couldn’t we ask candidates , a bit like players , to just call themselves by one name to add some sassy effect .

So eg Russell Martin could become Chariot and Gary O’Neill can choose to be Lancelot

For me it has to be a British manager, I did think Gerrard would be the obvious choice but now I'm not so sure. Whoever the board decide to go with gets my support

Wouldn’t surprise me if the telegraph knows we have spoken to the British coaches mentioned, via sources at the managers end. They likely dont have sources for foreign ones so have just used the term ‘foreign managers’ loosely. Just because we have spoken to someone who expressed interest, doesn’t mean they will be considered. People get spoken to about jobs they apply for or are interested in that they are extremely unlikely to get in every walk of life

Telegraph list is more realistic than some want to admit.

I agree.

We're kidding ourselves on if we think those names haven't been discussed at management level but the thought of a bloke who was relegating Luton to League One or Gary "It's not me or my staff's fault" O'Neill becoming our next manager is absolutely depressing.

If that's our level of ambition then I just hope Gerrard tells the 49'ers to cut the shit and give him the job.

Smacks of the old trick of throw a load of shite names out to them, but keep Stevie’s in, so the fans align on one particular manager.

As it ever was.

Good God.

He was 33/1 an hour ago
I put 15 on Gerrard @4/1 obviously not a massive amount but out of curiosity checked to see had moved in slightly. No he's now 5/1 and McIinnes jumped to favourite.

Hopefully someone just shoved a tenner on as an experiment.

In the car so got Superscoreboard on.

Callers so far have suggested Stephen Robinson to

Mikel Artera.

Christ. (No, he's not been suggested)

These odds on Gerrard are too good to pass-up. I’m still aboard the train for sure.

The list of candidates from the telegraph are prob not far off our budget. Fantasy land that we can go after Rose / Dyche etc when they are on £4/5M a year.

The move on Del Boy shows how little it takes to move the odds - no chance it’s him

In my opinion yes and I also think had he not left for Villa he'd have won us it again.
Other than blind faith what’s your thinking on that take?

At the time of leaving we went double figures in games conceding the first goal, had already dropped points to 3 teams at home and got beat at tannadice.

We had also been dumped out by Malmo and scrapped by Alkahshert or whatever the %^*& they were called.

I don't think we'd have won 56 if Gerrard had hung around infact we wouldn't have got to Seville either as we were honking in the EL under him that season .
We all have different opinions and what we are disagreeing on is hypothetical what isn't hypothetical is he's the only manager since our return to the top flight to deliver the title and we've been quite a distance from that since he left.

Yesterday there was someone on saying the takeover would be bad and that we should give the job to ferguson

We had dropped points but still had a gap at the top of the table

We had beaten Celtic whilst under strength

Regardless of what's posted on here our form was one loss in 52 games

Celtic couldn't beat us at that time

They were not happy with Ange as they wanted Howe as manager

They were turning on their board due to failure of delivering 10iar

Again just an opinion but had he stayed and kept the gap at the top of the table they'd have turned on their own very quickly.

Realistically, do we think the board will not name the permanent manager until the last game as a mark of respect for the current coaching team, even if they are getting the gig?
Don’t see the point- it will just cause a massive side-show.
Just let Ferguson see out the remaining matches, and then take it from there. If the new man is lined up he can get on with preparing without any distractions for now.
