No assistant manager

Ronaldo !
CR7 !
Assistant player/manager,
He wants to keep playing until he’s 40,
He wants to be the Champions league’s top scorer of all time,
Come to Rangers at a massively reduced wage and turn your dreams into reality

His managerial record is abysmal.

It really isn’t.
Managed Clyde in impossible circumstances.
Did a decent job at Dundee again under very difficult circumstances. Was shafted bu their board when they sacked him when they were near the top of the league.

But it’s largely a moot point. he’s not being brought in to be the manager. He’s being brought in as we instil the standards that are required at Rangers.
I don’t think any player would be able to come back in a dressing room having given less than 100% if they knew they would need to answer to Bomber.

Having met him, despite having a rather ferocious reputation he’s actually a genuinely good and decent man with a sharp wit and a real ability to put an arm round a shoulder when required. I’m sure Barry said it was Bomber who convinced him to stay at the stay club when he was struggling to get a look in before Advocaat came in.

Could you see martindale giving up a number 1 job to take number 2? Even if the wages are higher I’m not sure he would want to go down that route
The Rangers number 2 role is significantly more lucrative and prestigious than the Livi managers job.

If things went well for him, he could find himself in serious demand down south, or even in the running for our managers job in a few years.

Nobody would’ve tipped Beale for our managers job when he first joined and now look how things are.

The asst managers main role is to be a good conduit between the manager/coaches and dressing room.

Smith had it with Knox, McLeish and Watson, then Walter again with Ally and Gerrard had McAllister.

Being a good number 2 isn’t always about your coaching credentials. That’s why there’s coaches who specialise in goalkeeping, tactics, set pieces etc.

Someone like Thomson would be ideal for that role. He’s not too long retired, has been around the club in recent years and can point to a pretty decent collection of medals and trophies to get immediate respect.

I’m gonna keep popping in here periodically to ask what this thread is based on?

He had 2 assistants at QPR and he’s brought them both.

Spot on. There’s some on here that take the abusers’ stereotype of Bomber at fave value for some reason. It’s poor.

Most clubs (big clubs especially) have ex-players and legends in and around the stadium, training grounds, offices and the coaching staff.

If you’re trying to maintain traditions and preserve the culture of a club it’s vitally important.

Ex-Rangers men at Rangers is something we are desperately missing at the moment.
Proud ex-Rangers men?

All of what you have said above happens at Rangers, trust me.

Exactly. You can't even leave hospitality with a pint or McLaren will come down on you like a tonne of bricks. Don't think we need to worry we're lacking Rangers men about the place.

Hopefully our recruitment is based on coaching qualifications rsther than an ex players or people who speak well to the media.

4 pages of people replying saying Kenny Miller has recently joined Huddersfield, in response to a post made on page 1.

This thread in a nutshell.

I’d consider Gerrard if he made a public apology that he got to wrong joining a small club. B-D

How about Ally McCoist? Granted a terrible Manager, but by all accounts he was a good Assistant.

The guys who he is bringing in will be assistant coaches the same as they were at QPR. There won't be an assistant manager in the traditional sense
