No fans could be the best thing to ever happen to us

Thinking about today's great win at Aberdeen & can't help but think back to 12 months ago.

The 2-1 win at Rugby Park and the absolute shambles of an artificial, media driven fallout that followed.

The media will do anything to deflect, deny and sour any type of positive result we get. With no fans being at the game it just didn't give them the opportunity to do so.

I also noticed a notable change in the style of game today. There was no pressure on Madden to book Rangers players, there was no extra noise around Morelos, it just felt like 2 football teams up against each other & the better team winning.

The frenzy that these clubs work themselves up into whenever Rangers come to town just wasn't there today, and honestly it seemed to help simplify things for us.

Show up, play better football than them and take the 3 points. There's no extra nonsense and circus around the occasion and long may it continue. I think as long as it stays the same as it was today the players will be able to focus on just winning games, and secretly it could be a blessing in disguise for us.

Sorry mate, but although I see where your coming from I cant agree.

Any player and I include every club that feels more comfortable playing with no fans, is in the wrong profession.

I wouldn't go that far, but I think an empty Ibrox might benefit us.

If we haven't scored by midway through the second half - especially against the poorer teams - we sometimes get on the players backs a bit too much and put them under pressure.

Yes, they need the mental strength to play for a club such as ours. But I think we'll pick up points that we didn't last season.

I may have a tad. I get what your saying but as a poster stated your in the wrong fame if you can't play with fans there.

I agree we need players who can cope with the pressure, but I also think no other club in Scotland - not even the mentally challengeds - face the same as our players do whenever they visit these grounds. If anything I think it's just a levelling of the playing field having no supporters there.

Maybe we should have a sub system for pessimistic fans! Go have a pint and bring someone fresh in.

I think it gives the opposition more of a drive against us with their fans. Take that away and I expect pure talent to see them off no problem. Could be a real neck and neck season between us and them because I can’t see both teams dropping many points.

Could benefit us at home in the tighter games when the anxiety seeps from the stands onto the park and players start making bad decisions.
Or it could completely shaft us for giving them the roar to spur them on.

Surely the opposite argument could be used as a negative for home games??

It could. It will be interesting to see how our home games pan out, but I definitely think without a crowd there, there appear to be less variables & the better footballing team should come out on top. I think over the piece it favours us more than others.

Fans: Player makes a mistake and it’s grumbles and moans descending from the stands.....we can be an unforgivable support. That can, and does affect performances.

or

No fans: Player makes a mistake and all he hears is his teammates and manager giving him words of encouragement.

FFS try after the first 5 minutes.

I hate to be this guy but I think some/most of our players will benefit from not getting pulled up by some of the maniacs who would usually pipe up after 10 mins in and not being 5-0 up at Ibrox. I know it's a minority but let's be honest I think it's had an effect the last few seasons

We were in control of the game for 60 minutes before going stale and Aberdeen showing glimpses of getting back into it.

With a full Pittodrie behind them, I felt Aberdeen would’ve taken advantage of our staleness to push on and get the equaliser, like they have done in a couple of occasions under Gerrard.

The problem a lot of the time is us not killing teams off, plus the lack of change being made from the touch line when (as I’ve said above) things do go a bit stale.

Agree - we have ten moaning chunts for every nice guy around us. Even if that game had been at Ibrox today we would have put significant pressure on the team because we were miles ahead but only 1 up.

The moaning face old bassa is actually a c.unt and a negative. Today I would have been moaning since we scored but also singing Derry's Walls etc. We need to join our voices this season to ensure that the greatest injustice in football - them getting 9.75 - never happens.

Every single person at Ibrox needs to roar positivity

what games/s do you think we would have won last season if there had been no fans?

i cant think of any.

All speculation mate but I remember the capitulation in the 2-2 draw at Aberdeen last season. 3 shocking performances at Tyncastle & another capitulation at Kilmarnock.

Who's to say how last season would've played out with no fans, but based on the evidence from earlier today's game was nothing like any of those games I mentioned from last season.

'ever' go take a run and jump and choose your words better. Best thing to EVER happen to our great club?

they were poor performances, both at tynecastle were shocking and secind halfs at aberdeen and killie just aa bad - i personally dont think they would have been any diffferent if they hadbeen BCD.

all hypothetical i suppose.

For now, no fans isnt a choice, its been thrust upon us. I think it will benefit us in terms of referee decisions and whats more I reckon the other lot will suffer for the same reason.

I kind if get what your saying, but the games fucked without the fans they can print what they want i want a full stadium that simple.

Agree to an extent, you only have to listen to ex players talk about the vitriol that comes from Ibrox so I actually think it’ll benefit us in home games in particular.

Still shite not having any fans there.

I think to be even having a discussion of maybe it's better for the players to have no fans, especially at Ibrox is something the fans really should have a good look at themselves about.

Everyone at Ibrox apart from the away team and fans want the same thing. They should be encouraged, especially at home. They take enough crap away from home, they shouldn't be getting it on their own patch. It's one thing having a ffs to the person next to you, but another to be shouting verbals, sometimes worse than what's coming out the away section.

Look at the Braga game at Ibrox to see what happens when the crowd are 100% with you.

Surely we shouldn’t be judging our team on the basis that they might perform better without an audience! Football is a spectator sport and our players and the team as a whole need to be able to withstand the pressures of fans - home and away. We should not be building our expectations based on artificial conditions such as the ones that exist due to COVID-19.

I understand what the op is saying and you are right about the circus that goes on during a match, it really should just come down to ability now with no fans.

It has its pros and cons because there is no doubt we have got the team over the line in some games but we have also capitulated when teams and their fans got ontop of us.

The game is a shadow of itself without fans though.

I mentioned this last week, and I agree with you.
Some players love a crowd of both sides to stimulate them.
Others … just don’t.I don’t think it’s any secret that we have some in our ranks who can’t handle the pressure, and expectation, of playing in front of 50,000.And that’s our own fans!
The last two seasons have unfortunately proven this.
Sorry, but I would gladly see the status quo continue if it meant us playing and winning consistently.

We should be building our expectations on all forms of what the game is going forward.Crowd, or no crowd.

I have to disagree. The stats across Europe shows that losing home crowd advantage results in fewer home teams winning.

This could negatively affect us even more than most clubs since, playing away from home, we often outnumber the home team fans, so are effectively the home team most weeks.

All very true mate and something I've mentioned a few times myself, regards away games.

I would really love to agree with you, but then why is it our players have choked, not once but twice now, home and away, when it comes to the business end of the season?

Gladly see the status quo? I despair. Agree that there may be less pressure with no crowds to actually want this to continue as long as we are winning is ridiculou! Need players that can handle the pressure

Given previous managers have gone on record saying they've held specialist training sessions to help players block out the negative Ibrox crowd, I'd wholeheartedly disagree.
I’ve never heard about this. Which Rangers managers? What sessions can you use to train for it?

If there are training exercises for crowd noise they should practise blocking out hearts, Aberdeen and even Kilmarnock for those little 5 minute spells when they’ve had their tails up and we’ve dropped points to absolute hammer throwing diddies.

Could be a combination of the added workload of having to compete in the Europa League midweek and Gerrard's reluctance to rest his favourites. They maybe just ran out of steam.

Warburton said it. Many players have alluded to it as well. It's quite clearly a tactic other managers have used against us: Take the sting out the game, time waste, frustrate the support and get them on their own players' backs. That's why you have opposition keepers taking their time after, like, 7 minutes. McInnes and Clarke executed it perfectly on more than one occasion.

Ibrox on the big occasion is right up there in terms of atmosphere. For your run of the mill SPFL game, it's easily one of the worst.

It's early days, but you could be right. If you look at it rationally, we have the best or second best group of players in the league. Any situation that only relies on the quality of the players on the park and isn't affected by outside factors such as referees, opposition fans etc can only be good for us. If its purely footballing ability we win every time.
