On this day 1992, 10 man Rangers beat Celtic 1-0 in Scottish Cup semi final

Remains to this day one of my favourite games. Never mind Craig Thomson or Kevin Clancy, the referee Andrew Waddell was the most disgraceful anti-Rangers referee I have ever seen. In this one, he sent off Davie Robertson after only 5 minutes for something that maybe merited yellow but nobody else on Planet Earth thought red.

We had Hateley out injured. We had recently lost to them at Ibrox, Tony Mowbray claiming it had been their easiest game of the season. We had been knocked out the Cup by them the previous 3 seasons, and hadn't won it for 11 years. And it was pissing down!

We rode our luck. We had players out of position. But we fought and chased and refused to lose.
Then up stepped Super Ally to score his 30th goal of the season, and you could see it meant as much to him as it did to us.

What a team. What a night.

This is the BBC highlights, not the SKY coverage which was live.

Enjoy!

That game was the only time I was in the old main stand at Hampden. Was up the back at about halfway line. 2 things I remember are a relatively narrow (compared to now) spiral stairs up and no segregation in this area!!

Remember it well, and incredible night. A real no surrender performance from players and fans alike. One of my favourite ever games.

I'm sure Liam Brady got interviewed after this and, in the usual always cheated mindset, claimed they had "penalty claim as big as a house."

This performance epitomised Rangers under Walter Smith at that time. The more the backs were against the wall the deeper we dug.

Great night I remember Paul Mcstay going down in the box like he`d been shot looking up seeing he wasn`t getting a pen then straight back up again,at the end of the game their fans started throwing coins at us but it was mostly 2ps :)

I was that nervous i made my old man leave with 2 mins to go. He wasn’t happy walking up the stairs. They were hitting the post, the bar & Goram was making saves.

We were soaked when the whistle went walking down stairs outside the Rangers end. What a relief!!

The second half seemed to last an hour!

I was out in the open North Enclosure too, must have been midnight before I dried in.

One of my favourite victories v them!
Supporters bus we travelled on went to Red Lion, Kinning Park pre match & post match.
Haven't a clue what ferry we got home that night/morning & neither did we care!

Standing in the uncovered north enclosure in the rain.
Andrew Waddell sending off Davie Robertson, after six minutes, for brushing against Fingers Miller.
Rangers scored a great goal.
Hung on a bit in the second half.
Brilliant victory for 10 man Rangers.
Tim end not full.

I remember going to our local to watch that and the whole place was in disbelief when Robertson was sent off, even more so that McStay got off with a reckless one not too long later.

I worked for Rocksteady that night. My supervisor was a bear, and she knew I was too, so she always picked me for the Rangers end at Hampden. I was allocated to guard the middle of the stairs. When we scored I was almost pitch side with the fans and got told off by the big boss for “clearly celebrating” when I was meant to be watching the crowd. What a night.
The red for Robbo was a disgrace, but that Rangers team were getting beat by no one.

I was absolutely blitzed watching that game, ended up in a fight on the way home & had my nose burst across my face for good measure.

Made for a right sight the next day in work, on site up at Stobhill, sitting in the howf reeking of vodka, burst nose, two black eyes & some of last nights blood splattered clothes still on :))

As for the game, that was a real "No Surrender" type performance from the players and manager, especially in the face of that dirty cheating bastard Waddell giving them an early gift.

Got absolutely drenched through to my boxers on the way from the car to the North Enclosure and it didn't let up all night.

We we popped into the pub on the way home expecting even all the poets I'd payed football with to grudgingly offer praise for such a herculean performance but all we got was 'Cheating bastards,we should have had a penalty and John Brown should have been sent off' :))

My work was infested with mentally challengeds including my boss who although I knew was a big one and he knew what I was, had never mentioned football before but after they had beat us 2-0 at Ibrox on the previous Saturday was giving it big licks since then,I was never and still not a betting man but after listening to him boasting about how they were going to %^*& us for too long I said 'Okay let's see how confident you are then, how much do you want to bet?

Needless to say I've never looked forward to going into work the next day as much as that day:))'

How good was Nigel Spackman?

Dropped back into central defence and played like a centre half all his days.

He did the same the day we beat Aberdeen in the last day title decider. Really underrated player who was terrofor us.
Spackman was a tremendous signing by Souness. Like so many in his normal role his value to the team was often only noticed when he wasn't playing.

A guy who still speaks so highly of his time with us.

My Timmy boss got sky into the office especially for the match. Mixed company of clients in that night. Boss was so raging at the end that he claimed they would win the UEFA cup that season and took ridiculous bets on that. Happy days. We had Andy Gray instead of Andy Wanker as well.

I’ll never forget just how good the bears were that night. I was in the Rangers End, middle, too near the front, but we just never stopped singing.

Waddell was a scandal that night, but the Rangers were not going to be beaten, fans or players.

One of my favourite matches & up there with the 9 Men 2.2 draw for defiance.

H, and you were dry, lol.
my cheap cagoule went in the bin.
What a night.

The Archie Knox story if true is good as well. Supposedly at halftime Knox went round all the bluenose ball boys & gave them a bung to slow the game down :))

Waddell was right up there with Willie Young as a pair of c unts that I totally despised. A pair of cheating bastards who would not look out of place with today's cheating bastards.

The cheating bastard needed a police escort off the pitch at the end !!

Also note that not one Rangers player went to shake that cretin's hand at the end of the game.

This type of performance was par for the course with this prick over a number of years. Waddell was probably the most arrogant incompetent official I ever had the misfortune to see.

Not even a red card in today’s game!

a truly shameful performance by waddell,no account taken of the conditions and how early in the game the late challenge was, unfortunately this is far from an isolated case in regards shameful refereeing of our team from then onwards, we rode our luck at times sure ,but a fantastic resilient performance from our guys got us over the line,we ended up in beechings in cathcart afterwards ,purely to dry out of course (externally anyway)

I was in the North enclosure that night. Put my scarf over my head in a futile attempt at sheltering from the relentless rain. I looked like a fat droont rat well before the end but felt 10 foot tall and almost floated out of that dump after the FT whistle. I'd never felt so proud to be a Bear.

"NEVER...WRITE...OFF...RANGERS"

I was 23 at the time, went to the game in double denim, scarves tied to each wrist and Rangers bucket type hat, what a twat I looked but one of the best games ever despite getting soaked.
