1890 - Rangers 3 (H.McCreadie,Untraced 2) Linthouse 2 - Rangers Sports Trophy Semi-Final
The Rangers Sports became part and parcel of Rangers life, with the annual meeting attracting top athletes from across the country for track and field events. By the time the 50th sports were held in 1942, there was a five-a-side element to what was primarily an athletics showcase. Back in the 19th century there was an 11-a-side competition as part of the event, with Rangers kicking off their Rangers Sports Trophy campaign on this day in 1890 with a 3-2 win against Linthouse. They went through, playing Dumbarton a week later and triumphed 3-1 to collect the silverware

Liked the look of the Osijek full back with the bandage.

Scored a good goal.

1972 at easter rd,is this the game that the football special train back to queen st got wrecked

The legendary journey back from Waverley. Train a few miles away from Queen Street a young guy in my brother's carriage said to his pal, "We'll get aff when the train stops at Springburn". Older guy in the carriage tells him it doesn't stop at Springburn and there then follows an, "Aye it dis, naw it disnae" argument between the young and older guy. Train gets to Springburn and screeches to a halt. Somebody has pulled the communication cord, the train doors fly open and half the passengers get off and run across the tracks heading for Springburn. The last words from the young guy in my brother's carriage to the older guy were, "Telt ye"!

Love these tales.

Football Specials were before my time.

Would have loved to experience one of them.
