The League race had quickly settled into a battle between Rangers and Celtic, with the parkhead men holding a slight advantage. Rangers meanwhile were in blistering form up front, having beaten Hibs 5-1 the previous week and blasting another five past luckless Clydebank, with David Mclean netting a hat-trick. Although Celtic won on the same day (2-0 against Dumbarton), Rangers were keeping the pressure up and improving their goal average

2003 - Dunfermline 2 Rangers 0 - Scottish Premier League (8,592)
2006 - Rangers 1 (Hutton) Partizan Belgrade 0 - UEFA Cup Group A (45,129)
Rangers held off Partizan Belgrade with a single goal from Alan Hutton to win Group A. The defender headed home impressively after 55 minutes, but an experimental Light Blues team laboured for long spells against the bottom side. Although Paul Le Guen's team failed to add to their tally, they equalled their record of 12 successive unbeaten games in Europe.

2003 - Dunfermline hadn't beat Rangers in about 30/40 years I'm sure. Think it would be one of the first times we played on an artificial surface in Scotland.

2006 - On of Le Guen's random summer signings made his one and only appearance. N'Dyaie (sp) think it was

Cheers Sam, utter disaster that day

This piece from the match report sums up our performance that day

"Rangers" were poor from start to finish. The defence struggled to cope with 37-year-old Craig Brewster, the midfield was non-existent and up front Nuno Capucho's continuing lack of form was underlined when he was replaced at half-time by Egil Ostenstad who, in fact, fared little better."

Rangers: Klos, Ricksen, Berg, Malcolm, Ball, Burke, Hughes, Vanoli, Lovenkrands, Mols, Capucho. Subs: McGregor, Arveladze, Ostenstad, Ross, Gibson.
