Rangers had lost the first leg in Belgium 4-1 but took to the field determined to try and win the tie. They did so without key player Willie Henderson, who had turned up at Ibrox too late for selection (he claimed to have been held up in the traffic generated by the crowd of 76,000,although others are not so convinced),but those who made it in time put in a stirring performance that took Rangers to the brink of equalising before slipping out of the competition

2012 - In what was probably the darkest day in the Rangers' 140 year history, it was announced that the club had entered administration - meaning it had been docked 10 points, effectively ending its Scottish Premier League challenge, the least of the worries of the supporters as the extent of the clubs financial plight began to unfold. The move followed an unsuccessful legal bid by HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) at the Court of Session in Edinburgh to appoint its own administrator, with Craig Whyte's preferred choice, Duff & Phelps, being appointed.
