1882 - Tom Vallance bade farewell to the club he had helped found and establish and where he had been captain for nine seasons.He was leaving Glasgow for India where he was to take up a position in Calcutta.The grateful Rangers club gave him a purse of 50 sovereigns in a presentation at Bridge Street Station Hotel and when he left for London from Central Station,a large crowd of well wishers also cheered him heartily
1889 - The Scottish Cup final replay between Queen's Park and Vale of Leven was staged at Ibrox (Ibrox had also staged the first match) with Queen's Park winning 2-1 on the day in front of a crowd of 14,000. It was the ninth time that they had won the trophy (including one occasion when they had been awarded the cup following the non-appearance of Vale of Leven in 1884: Vale of Leven had asked for the final to be delayed because two players were ill and another had suffererd a family bereavement. The request had been denied and the cup awarded to Queen's Park, with medals been awarded to those players who had taken part in the semi-final.

The Motherwell pitch was under water when Rangers arrived for the game but got steadily worse throughout the action,eventually forcing the referee to abandon proceedings after 75 minutes.The game was subsequently played in April with Rangers winning 2-1

Rangers twice came from behind to give themselves a fighting chance in the second leg. Playmaker Juan Roman Riquelme opened the scoring for Villarreal from the penalty spot after a handball by Rangers' Dado Prso following a corner. Peter Lovenkrands drove in the equaliser in the 22nd minute from the edge of the box. Diego Forlan fired Villarreal back in front, but Juan Manuel Pena flicked a Thomas Buffel cross into his own net. Rangers boss Alex McLeish sprung a surprise by including Hamed Namouchi in midfield ahead of Buffel, while Lovenkrands replaced Kris Boyd up front.

Rangers took advantage of woeful defending to earn a last-16 clash with Osasuna. Captain Barry Ferguson gave Rangers the lead in the 24th minute when he fired home Nacho Novo's low cross. Despite some neat play, Hapoel rarely threatened Alan McGregor's goal and Kris Boyd punished calamitous defending to score the second. Ferguson added the third before Rangers goalkeeper McGregor was sent off and Charlie Adam scored a late fourth.
