1887 - Rangers 3 (Fraser,Lindsay,Peacock) Lincoln City 0 - FA Cup 5th Round
Whilst Rangers had been dumped out of the Scottish Cup by Cambuslang in the third round,they continued to make good progress in the English competition in the only season in which they competed. Their opponents for the fifth round were Lincoln City,who had only been in existence for four years (although there is some evidence of a side in Lincoln in 1861,a year before Notts County) but who had made steady progress in a relatively short space of time and would later become founder members of the English second division;

Love these threads.

One thing I note is the quality of our goalscorers v lower league opposition in the cup competitions. It's clear during in our NIAR run we were intent on winning everything as emphatically as possible. I was too young and starry eyed to notice it happening but I take it we rarely put out scratch teams and scraped by games during that period? A home game against Dumbarton there in 94 and the scorers would all have started had it been an OF game.

In fairness mate, it’s the Scottish Cup, which are usually Saturday games so it was usually full teams we put out. It’s not like they are ‘extra’ league cup ties being played midweek where guys could benefit from a rest. For example our team v Keith in 1996 was

Goram, Cleland, Gough, Petrie, McLaren, Robertson, McCall, Ferguson, Miller, Durie, Laudrup

Bomber, Miko and Durrant came on too.

Back to OP I work with the lad that scored Dumbartons goal that night. Still goes on about it to this day :D
