On This Day (May 1st)

1976 - Robert McElroy, for one, is adamant this game witnessed the last 100,000+ crowd in Scottish football.

1985 - Peter McCloy saving a twice taken penalty from Aitken, just a couple of minutes in. Munro and Cooper red carded, yet we came back from a goal down to share the spoils.

If I remember correctly, Hughie Burns bombed down the touchline and into the yahoo box with only minutes to go and a chance was missed for a pleasant end to an eventful evening. Pretty sure a youngster called Ian Durrant made his OF debut that night.

1993 - 5 in a row clinched.

1995 - Rare outing for the lilac "European" strip. A lovely welcome back to Ibrox for a certain Maurice Johnston as well, booed light-heartedly every touch :))

2005 - Dado's slide in the rain

1971 - I attended this game attended by just over 7,000. A week later we met them in the Scottish Cup Final attended by 121,000.

1985 - the majestic Ian Durrant announced his arrival.

1976 took me my dad and brother half an hour to get out of old North stand crowd was massive, believe gate broke down at Rangers end as so many people trying to get in without tickets.

1976 Despite DJ being my 1970s hero, the first player I think of when this game gets mentioned is the late Bobby McKean.

1946 - Dougie Gray and Jimmy Smith were given free transfers.
Two wonderful servants of our great club.

Dougie Gray with 851 Appearances 1925-46
Jimmy Smith, 365 Goals in 390 Games 1928-46

Dougie Gray played in 362 of the 390 Games alongside Jimmy Smith.

What Price Today?

1909 - Rangers 3 (Gordon 3) Partick Thistle 1 - Glasgow Merchants' Charity Cup 1st Round (7,000)
A rare Hat trick from Jimmy Gordon.
A Rangers Great, who could play in Goals, in Defence, in Midfield, or Up Front.
He followed up this hat trick one week later, scoring twice in the Semi Final in a 3-2 win v Third Lanark, and another two the following week in a 4-2 win v Celtic in the Final.

My memory of the '76 final is that there was lots of room in the Rangers end, my guess was that the crowd was around 80,000.

2008: One of the best nights I've had supporting Rangers, will never forget that feeling when Novo scored. Still get goosebumps watching videos of it 13 years on.

2010: Novo's last goal for Rangers, party mode at Tannadice as we'd already won the league.

2016: Lewis Morgan equalised with the last kick of the ball which ensured we would go into the cup final without a win in 4. Was a typical game under Warburton, loads of possession and chances and lost soft goals.

85,354 according to Wikipedia. So not too far out then :)
If I recall correctly only the Rangers end and seated areas were all ticket. I could be wrong, it's been awhile.
There was a break in when a gate was forced open and literally thousands streamed in.
I was in the North Enclosure and there were punters still arriving as HT approached.
I agree with Robert McElroy when he thinks there was in excess of 100,000 in attendance. What's not in doubt is that there were far more there than the official attendance.

1985 - 9 men fight back to earn a draw and Fergie's sheep were officially crowned champions thanks to Coisty's equaliser.

2008, oh what a night.

Went out for my wedding anniversary meal a couple of days later and the waitress commented that my wife must be doing something right as I hadn't stopped smiling.
"He's thinking about Rangers"
She wasn't wrong.

1976 Myself and 3 pals standing near the back of the que for the enclosure when along came a chief inspector and escorted us inside the ground. The look of astonishment on the punters faces was great to see, the Bobby was from our town and he enjoyed a few drams with us over the next few weeks.
