1856 - Our Founder William McBeath was born in the village of Callender. Willie's dad peter owned a general store on Callender's main street and the family home was above the store, which is now the Waverley Hotel.
William had an older sister, Jane, and an older brother, Peter. Another boy was born after William but he like so many other children of the time, died in infancy.
Tragically, his dad peter passed away in November 1864. Shortly afterwards, his wife took William and his sister Jane to Glasgow to start a new life. By the time of the 1871 census, the McBeath's were living at 17 Cleveland Street, living in the same close were five members of the McNeil family, including brothers Peter and William.
It was the following year at the beginning of 1872 the four boys had an idea to form a football team. William McBeath played in our first ever match against Callender and according to fellow Ranger, William Dunlop, "was awarded man of the match then spent a week in bed recovering from his exertions" ! William went on to become Rangers' first ever President in 1874.

1953 - Queen of the South 1 Rangers 1 (Waddell) - Scottish League Division One (17,000)
After two barren years when they won no major honours, Rangers bounced back with another domestic double of Scottish League and Scottish Cup. It was close run on both competitions, none more so then the League which went to the final match. Once again it was Hibernian, champions in the two proceeding seasons, who ran Rangers closest, and on the final day of the season a draw or preferably a win would take the title to Ibrox. Things didn't go quite as planned, and a Willie Waddell equaliser 15 minutes from the end gave Rangers the point required. They won the title, but only on goal average from Hibernian.

1988/2008 - can’t be often that 2 brothers have scored goals on the same day, for the same teams but 2 decades apart.

The 2008 game was midweek and quite tense with a late goal as I remember it - is that right?

1994 and the Hateley “experiment”

1995 - Celtic 3 Rangers 0 - Scottish Premier Division (Played at Hampden Park) (31,025)

I was thinking that there can’t be many matches between Rangers & Celtic where the attendance has been under 35,000 but had a look at the period and the games at Hampden and Parkhead were all sound 30-35,000 for a couple of seasons.

Did they not have Hampden fully in use while Celtic were using it?
I can understand the reduced numbers at the Piggery up to 1997 or so as they were building stands but 30-odd thousand at Hampden seems really low.

The scum never sold all there tickets that day empty spaces everywhere that’s why attendance was low

1977 What a rotten day that was. Bucketing down, Bob Valentine giving a non existent penalty and seeing an ex hero in Alfie Conn celebrating in his Celtic strip.

That season was one disaster after another, in between 2 glorious trebles.

2008 was a late Ferguson goal, everyone very excited for Manchester the following week, pretty much all you heard all night!

I went to that match after defying my parents when I shoulD have been studying for my Highers, think it was Maths exam on the Monday. The loss on a terrible day pretty much summed up my mood.

It was the deadest of dead rubbers.

For some reason I watched it in the Rosevale and the old boy who sat in front of my in the Enclosure that drank in there saw me and clearly wondering WTF I was doing there!

In the 1995 game at Hampden, I remember Bomber Brown going off injured and realising it was a lost cause after that.
